Star power out in force for $5m mile race
The All-Star Mile is the world's richest race over 1600m. It is backed by a $5 million purse and is now in its third year. The field is chosen by public voting and wildcard entries. Some administrators are concerned it comes at the cost of the traditional Australian Cup. The Australian Cups are traditionally held in the middle of Melbourne's autumn carnival. In this case, the All Star Mile has been placed in autumn. This is in response to NSW positioning the Everest during the Melbourne spring carnivial.
The All-Star Mile is held a week after the Australian Cup. There are nine Group One winners in the field of 15. Arcadia Queen topped the poll count. She will be trying to give her stable, owner and rider successive All Star victories after Regal Power's win in 2020.
