Stars vs Canucks Picks, Predictions & Odds Tonight

The Stars come to Vancouver as slight road favorites tonight, but our NHL betting picks believe Dallas will be outshined by the Stars on the other end of the ice, namely Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson.

The Vancouver Canucks, fresh off a 10-goal outburst against the lowly Sharks, come into tonight’s contest on a six-game point streak (5-0-1) and will look to keep rolling against the Dallas Stars. Dallas, meanwhile, has lost just once in regulation this season, and will try to extend its own win streak to four games.

It’ll be a battle of strength vs. strength tonight as the Canucks own the NHL’s top offense at 4.60 goals per game, while the Stars sit just outside the Top 5 in defense with 2.56 goals against per game.

Find out which of these streaking teams has the edge in the NHL odds tonight in our Stars vs. Canucks NHL picks and predictions for Saturday, November 4.

Stars vs Canucks predictions

The Canucks have been one of the big surprises of this young NHL season as they lead the league in goals scored (46) while occupying second place in the Pacific Division behind only the Golden Knights.

Quinn Hughes has been one of the key reasons for the team’s success as he’s been on a tear to start the season with 16 points in 10 games — the most points among all defensemen and just four points back of New Jersey’s Jack Hughes for the league lead.

The Canucks blueliner racked up an incredible five points in Vancouver’s 10-1 win over San Jose on Thursday, matching the franchise record for points in a game by a defenseman. Hughes has been on fire over his last six games with 12 points and three multi-point outings over that span and will look to carry that into tonight’s contest.

The Stars do own one of the NHL’s stingiest defenses at 2.56 GAPG, but the Canucks have generally been able to solve them, scoring at least four goals in five of the last six head-to-head meetings. That said, Hughes should be able to create plenty of chances tonight and pick up at least one point against Dallas.

My best bet: Hughes Over 0.5 Points (-162 at SIA)

Stars vs Canucks same-game parlay

Elias Pettersson anytime scorer

Canucks to score first

Canucks moneyline

Hughes Over 0.5 points isn’t an option in this same-game parlay so we’ll switch our focus and look for Elias Pettersson to score a goal. The Canucks star is just two games removed from a hat trick vs. the Predators and is shooting just under 24% this season, so he’s got a good shot at a goal if he can throw a few pucks on net.

We’ll round out the parlay by taking Vancouver to score first and earn the win. The Canucks have opened the scoring seven times this season — tops in the NHL — while going 6-0-1 in those contests. It’s safe to say that if Vancouver can find first blood, they’ll likely take two points.

Stars vs Canucks moneyline and Over/Under analysis

Despite Vancouver’s hot start, Dallas is getting the edge in this matchup as the road favorite, coming in at -115 on the moneyline while the hosts open at +103. To be completely honest, I’m not sure if I’m sold yet on the Canucks, but I think the odds and head-to-head trends point toward taking Vancouver tonight.

The Canucks are definitely riding some puck luck and strong goaltending so far as they rank 28th in the NHL in expected goals percentage at five-on-five (44.75), yet first in actual goals percentage (69.23). Thatcher Demko, tonight’s likely starter, has been a huge reason for this discrepancy as he’s saved 8.5 goals above expected — second-best in the league. On one hand, the Canucks are likely due for regression, but on the other, it’s hard to bet against Demko right now.

Vancouver has also dominated this matchup with six straight wins against Dallas and could be poised for a seventh straight if Demko puts on another show tonight.

Tonight’s total opened at 6 goals and the Over is the clear play here. These clubs have cashed the Over in six of their last eight meetings while combining for at least seven goals in five of their last seven contests.

As mentioned, the Canucks are the NHL’s highest-scoring team so far, averaging 4.6 GPG while netting at least four tallies in six of 10 games this season, so expect to see some goals tonight.
