Stats and facts ahead of the Newmarket G1
Oxted, a five-year-old, is the defending champion of the Darley July Cup. Starman, Rohaan, Dragon Symbol, Supremacy, Creative Force, Glen Shiel, Art Power and Garrus are the other horses in the field. Dream Of Dreams is absent. Extravagant Kid is staying on to contest the race. Chil Chils is trying to become the first filly or mare to win the event since Fleeting Spirit in 2009.
The Darley July Cup Stakes takes place on Saturday July 10th at 4.35 pm at Newmarket's July Course.
Rohaan won a handicap on his previous start. He is aiming to win the July Cup at Newmarket. There were 5.5 wins from 90 runners at 5% (Percentage Rivals Beaten 40.33%) that ran in a G1 last time out since 2000.
Rohaan won the Wokingham off a rating of 112. La Cucaracha won Sky Bet Dash off 105 in 2005. La Cucaracha won the Sky Bet Dash in 2005. Goodrichke was second in the Prix Maurice de Gheest in France in August 2005 and finished his campaign with a win in Haydock Sprint Cup. Borderlescott won Nunthorpe in 2008 and was a dual top-level winner. Twilight Son won Charity Sprint Handicap at York in June 2015.
Last year's winner Oxted faces a tough task in seeing off the younger brigade. No horse has won the race back-to-back since Right Boy in 1959. Les Arcs (2006) is the only winner older than five to have won this race since Shalfleet in 1938.
Mozart, Oasis Dream, Sakhee’s Secret, Dream Ahead, Muhaarar, Harry Angel, U S Navy Flag, Ten Sovereigns won the Newmarket G1.
Landseer, Airwave, Caravaggio, Advertise, Golden Horde and Harry Angel are the shortest-priced losers in the July Cup.
There were winners of the Newmarket G1.
Danehurst, Choisir, Exceed And Excel, Brazen Beau, Blue Point, Sceptical and Oxted are the shortest-priced losers. The winner of the Newmarket G1 is usually a four-year-old.
Agnes World, Continent, Frizzante, Marchand d’Or, Slade Power won the Newmarket G1.
Only Slade Power has won for the five-year-olds in the last 12 years. Scenic Blast (11/8 10th 2009), Fleeting Spirit (7/2 5th 2010), Society Rock ( 7/3 3rd 2012), Limato (4/1 2nd 2017).

Lope Y Fernandez could be the O'Brien trip dropper this year. Charlie Appleby has the strongest seven-furlong hand. Creative Force is a more obvious contender for the yard. The July Cup takes place at Newmarket on Saturday. The winner will go for a £1.5m prize. It will be held on the July Course. There are 52 runners this time. Pastoral Pursuits, Dream Ahead, Limato, Mozart, U S Navy Flag and Lope y Fernandez have won the race in the last decade.
