Stewards Cup Form Guide & Tips

1. Golden Sixty ($3)

Golden Sixty owns 22 wins from 26 starts, and although beaten last time out by California Spangle, he can’t be overlooked.

The seven-year-old has to be included in betting selections and the $3 warrants serious attention and getting barrier two is ideal.

It’s likely to be three horses fighting out the finish and he’s one of them.

2. Romantic Warrior (Best Bet – $2.37)

Romantic Warrior has gone to another level this season and the nine-time winner from 10 starts and continue his winning ways.

The five-year-old son of Acclamation won by 4.5 lengths last time out in the Hong Kong Cup and there’s nothing wrong with that form.

Having Karis Teetan in the saddle is ideal and his best form should see him win.

3. California Spangle (Best Each Way – $2.62)

California Spangle isn’t paying each-way odds but he’s the second-best pick in The Stewards’ Cup.

The five-year-old gelding is a nine-time winner from 14 starts and he was tough when beating Golden Sixty last time out.

That form is tough to overlook and having Zac Purton in the saddle is a bonus, so he can’t be left out of calculations.

4. Waikuku ($81)

Waikuku used to be a top-level runner but he hasn’t run well enough lately to be considered here.

He finished third behind Golden Sixty two back but followed it up with an eighth at Sha Tin behind California Spangle.

He would need to lift to have any chance on Sunday.

5. Russian Emperor ($81)

Russian Emperor hasn’t been too far behind the pace this season but he’s not running well enough to win this race.

We don’t mind his chances in something easier but this race isn’t for him.

6. Beauty Joy (Best Roughie – $34)

Beauty Joy is good enough to figure in the finish, and although he’s facing some red-hot types, he could sneak into a first-four position.

Having Hugh Bowman riding helps and he gets the inside draw, so there are no excuses for him not to beat the likes of Waikuku, Russian Emperor, and Panfield.

7. Panfield ($101)

Better when fourth last time out but the odds tell the story. He won’t be figuring in the finish.
