Stormers vs Sharks Predictions

The Stormers dismantled the Sharks a few weeks ago in Durban. While I expect this to be more competitive, the form of the Stormers is just too good, particularly at home where they are unbeaten this season.

I am backing the hosts to cover the -7 handicap.

  • Stormers have won 4 of their last 5 matches.
  • Stormers have won their last 8 home matches in all competitions.
  • Stormers beat the Sharks by 17 points in their last meeting.
  • Sharks have lost 3 of their last 5 matches in all competitions.

Head to Head

These two met just a few weeks ago at Kings Park. The Stormers ran riot in that fixture, winning 46-19.

Stormers Form

The Stormers are cruising in second place of the URC, five points ahead of Ulster after 14 matches. The Cape franchise have won 10 of their 14 matches with one draw and three defeats.

While the top spot looks a step too far with Leinster 12 points clear and unbeaten this season, the Stormers will want to secure second place. With just four URC matches remaining before the playoffs, they won’t want to slip up now in their attempt to defend their title.

The Stormers have won their last two matches in the URC, both of which were local derbies. They beat the Sharks 46-19 away to kick February off, and followed it up with a 23-19 away win over the Bulls.

With a trip to Leinster on 24 March next, this is close to a must-win match for John Dobson’s side.

Stormers Injuries & Team News

Dobson has made six changes to his side for this weekend. Angelo Davids and Paul de Wet both start in the backline, while Ali Vermaak, Joseph Dweba, Ernst van Rhyn and Ben-Jason Dixon starting upfront. Gary Porter is ruled out for concussion.

Sharks Form

The Sharks have recovered well in the second half of the season following the change of coaching staff. They are however still seventh on the table, a point off the Bulls in the final playoff spot.

After beating Edinburgh away, the Sharks were hammered by the Stormers on home soil. They then beat the Lions 29-7 away before losing 31-24 to Ulster last weekend.

That result has put the Sharks under huge pressure to get results. After the Stormers match they face Scarlets away, before hosting Benetton and Munster. They may need three wins on the bounce if they lose this weekend.

Sharks Injuries & Team News

Neil Powell has made changes to his side this weekend. Dian Bleuler, Emile van Heerden, Henco Venter and Sikhumbuzo Notshe starting up front. In the backline Aphelele Fassi starts on the wing.
