Super League star claims current club is "bigger" than rivals

Players at Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves and Hull FC face uncertain futures and that is the case across Super League but there is one man who is catching the eye more than most.

That is Blake Austin at Leeds Rhinos. The halfback joined the club in 2022 on a one year deal but he soon signed a one year extension.

However, that is now set to expire with Austin in the best form he has shown since he joined Leeds.

After an amazing Man of the Match performance against Huddersfield Giants, it was reported that Austin hadn’t agreed a deal at Leeds and could leave the club.

He then won the Man of the Match against Warrington and after the game said he hoped Gary Hetherington was watching.

This was re-affirmed on Sky Sports News last week after being named Player of the Year.

With Austin’s future unclear, he appeared on the JBK Show.

He was asked about the difference between Leeds and Warrington and branded the Rhinos as “a bigger club” than the Wolves.

“It’s all very similar Leeds is a bigger club. Leeds historically, I probably underestimated how big a club they are over here the Leeds Rhinos and how much success they’ve had,” he said.

“Warrington is known as the club that spend a lot but never get any success probably like Man United of late or something like that.

“I couldn’t speak more highly of Warrington. I guess when you first move over, the club that you’re at and how they treat you is how you’re going to view the country and the reason I love the UK so much is for everything that Warrington and the mates I have there. So I’ll never say a bad word about them.

“That was, you know, although some of the worst years with COVID and stuff, you know, also some of the best times and some of the best friends I’ve made, you know, as well.”

Leeds fans will be hoping that during the week off that Austin’s future became closer to being resolved with Aidan Sezer likely set to leave.
