Sydney Roosters vs Melbourne Storm Predictions

Despite the Roosters poor form, this game is still a heavyweight battle. With a host of stars back on deck, Sydney will be out for blood having won only one from the last seven games against Melbourne.

Unfortunately for the home team I can only see the trend continuing for the Storm, who seem to have the tri-colours figured out. Our model is predicting a 7-point margin in favour of the Storm so the -4.5 on offer at most books offers great value.

  • Melbourne have won and covered the line in 4 of 6 games this year as favourites of under a converted try.
  • Sydney are a league worst 5-11 ATS this season.
  • The Roosters and Storm have a combined 11-21 record for OVER/UNDER in 2023.
  • Xavier Coates has scored 4 tries in his last 2 games against the Roosters

Head to Head

Sydney and Melbourne have played nine regular season games against each other over the past four and a half seasons.

The Storm hold a commanding lead in the head to head statistics taking seven wins against the Roosters' two. These teams have also met in one finals game in 2019 which the Storm also won.

In their round 6 game earlier this year at AAMI Park, Melbourne put an end to the Roosters three-game win streak taking the chocolates 28-8.

Sydney Roosters Form

The Roosters continue to underwhelm in 2023 having lost three of their last four games.

Sydney are 16th in the league in points scored heading into round 20, averaging 16.4 points per game on the season.

They are also 15th in the league in Run Metres and last in Linebreaks proving things are not going their way this year.

Sydney Roosters Team News

The Roosters welcome back a host of players for this round 20 match-up. Brandon Smith played reserve grade last week and is good to go from the bench.

Hooker Jake Turpin and forward Egan Butcher are back in the team after concussion protocols, same deal for Billy Smith and Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, who missed round 18 after clashing heads at training.

James Tedesco and Lindsay Collins are named back up from Origin III if their bodies permit.

In their loss to the Panthers, Melbourne managed only 1264 run metres, well down on their season average of 1423 metres/per game.
