Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Vegas Golden Knights Prediction, Preview, and Odds

The Tampa Bay Lightning are traveling to T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada to face the Vegas Golden Knights. Tampa Bay is 36-25-6 this season and sits sixth overall in the Eastern Conference. Vegas is eighth in the Western Conference with a record of 36-24-7. Tampa Bay won their match earlier this season against the Golden Knights with a final score of 5-4. The puck drop is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. EST.

Lightning's Top Powerplay

The Tampa Bay Lightning are traveling to Vegas after their win on Saturday against the Florida Panthers with a final score of 5-3. This would be their third win in a row as they continue a five game road trip which currently has a record of 1-0. The Lightning are averaging 3.46 goals per game this season which has been leading them to much of their success. Their offense is mostly helped by their powerplay percentage which sits number one in the NHL at 28.9%. On defense the Lightning are allowing an average of 3.36 goals against per game.

Andrei Vasilevskiy will likely start in net as he has taken a majority of the starts and his recent performances. Vasilevskiy this season has a record of 24-16-1 with a goals against average of 2.96 and a save percentage of .898. In his last five starts, Vasilevskiy has a goals against average of 2.77 and a save percentage of .911.

Vegas Aiming for Post Season

The Vegas Golden Knights are coming off a win at home on Sunday against the New Jersey Devils with a final score of 3-1. The Golden Knights are continuing a four game home stand which currently has a record of 1-0. Vegas on the season is averaging 3.16 goals per game, ranking them 14th overall. On defense Vegas is allowing an average of 2.96 goals against per game. They rank 11th in both goals against average and penalty kill percentage with a percentage of 80.8%

Both goaltenders are likely to start but I believe we will see Adin Hill based on his performances this season. Hill has a record of 17-9-2 with a goals against average of 2.60 and a save percentage of .917. In his last five starts, Hill has a goals against average of 3.63 and a save percentage of .887.

Rating:

When I look at the line for this game, I think that Vegas is a little too favored in a game which looks like a 50/50 game. Tampa is 4-1 in their last five games and they need to continue to win if they want to stay in a playoff race. Vegas is behind in the playoff standings and I am not sure if they will be able to make it if they do not get wins themselves. Both teams want wins but ultimately I think it comes down to goaltending. Tampa has the edge in net and that is who I am going with in this one.

Take the Lightning on the moneyline.

Prediction: Tampa Bay Lightning Moneyline ( +116 )

Rating:

This is going to be a close game and because of that I am looking at the over. Vegas is averaging three goals per game in their last five games and they are allowing 3.8 goals against per game. Tampa is averaging 3.34 goals per game in their last five on the road and is allowing 2.75 goals against. I think we see a 3-3 overtime game in this one.

I am taking the over at 6.5.

Prediction: Over 6.5 ( -104 )
