The Dallas Stars will be without captain Jamie Benn for at least the must-win Game 4 of the Western Conference Final. Benn was suspended two games by the NHL one day after his ugly hit that ended with his stick on Vegas captain Mark Stone's neck in Game 3. Benn says he has to be more responsible with his body and stick and called it an unfortunate play. The Golden Knights take a 3-0 series lead in Game 4 in Dallas on Thursday night. If the Stars win, Benn will then miss Game 5.

Memorial Day weekend is almost here. That means Labor Day weekend can’t be that far away, which means college football isn’t that far away.

PHILADELPHIA — As Trea Turner trudged back to the dugout after striking out in the seventh inning, the chorus — “Boooooo!” — from a nearly packed house had grown familiar.

Lautaro Martinez scored twice as Inter Milan produced a 2-1 comeback win over Fiorentina to defend the Italian Cup trophy. It’s the second trophy that Inter has won this season after also beating AC Milan in the Italian Super Cup in January. And Inter will be aiming for one more trophy when it faces Manchester City in the Champions League final on June 10 in Istanbul. Both of Martinez's goals came before the break after Nicolas Gonzalez had put Fiorentina ahead early on. It's the ninth Italian Cup title for Inter.

CHICAGO — Jed Hoyer is a man of few regrets, so it was no surprise the Chicago Cubs president didn’t second-guess his decision to send Christopher Morel to Triple-A Iowa to start the season.

Janson Reeder hit a go-ahead grand slam in the seventh inning and No. 8 seed Kansas knocked off top-seeded Texas 6-3 in the Big 12 Tournament. Kansas (25-30) advances to the winners’ bracket to play No. 4 seed TCU on Thursday, while Texas (38-19) faces elimination against No. 5 Kansas State. The Longhorns received the No. 1 seed after sharing the regular-season title with West Virginia and Oklahoma State. Chase Jans got his 50th RBI of the season in the third inning to open the scoring and Kodey Shojinaga, the Big 12 freshman of the year, gave Kansas a 2-0 lead with an RBI single to left field. Shojinaga finished 3 for 4.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Trea Turner tied the game with a two-run homer in the ninth inning and Alec Bohm hit the winning single in the 10th to rally the Philadelphia Phillies from five runs down in a 6-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes says his goal is not to be the highest-paid QB in the NFL.

The Atlantic Coast Conference is moving forward allowing schools to earn more money generated from their own postseason performances. That move comes as the league tries to find ways to close a growing financial gap with two power-conference peers. The ACC announced Wednesday that its board of directors have endorsed a “success incentive initiative” for the 2024-25 season. Details are being finalized. The league has long distributed revenue evenly among its membership. TV money will remain equally distributed. The change would affect money coming from revenue-generating postseason events like the College Football Playoff and the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

MINNEAPOLIS — The Twins stole four bases and had as many hits as runs in Wednesday afternoon's weird and wild 7-1 victory over a generous San Francisco team at Target Field.

DALLAS — The Dallas Stars hosted their most significant game since 2016, and in front of an amped crowd they promptly performed like they had never seen a hockey puck in their lives.

CONCORD, N.C. — Charlotte Motor Speedway will be the site of a long-awaited return for one of NASCAR’s top drivers.

FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys began Offeseason Training Activities — known as OTAs in the NFL — on Tuesday and the media will get a first look at the 2023 team on Thursday.

Lamar Jackson practiced with the Baltimore Ravens during their voluntary session. Jackson says the reason he came was because the team is learning a new offense under new coordinator Todd Monken. The star quarterback reached a $260 million, five-year deal with the Ravens late last month. Jackson skipped this part of Baltimore’s offseason work last year, although he attended the mandatory camps. Rookie receiver Zay Flowers was at practice as well. So was wideout Rashad Bateman, who is back from a foot injury that limited him to six games last season.

Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson will start a minor league injury rehabilitation assignment on Thursday and slugger Giancarlo Stanton could begin one as soon as this weekend. New York manager Aaron Boone said Donaldson, sidelined since April 5 by a strained right hamstring, will report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre on Thursday. Boone said Donaldson likely will play the field on Thursday, be a designated hitter Friday, be off Saturday and play Sunday. Stanton will have a scan on Thursday. He has been sidelined since April 15 by a strained left hamstring.

The Twins capitalized on a handful of Giants' miscues and snapped a three-game losing streak with a 7-1 victory Saturday afternoon in Minnesota. Edouard Julien hit a home run and had two RBIs and two runs scored. Twins starter and childhood Giants fan Joe Ryan allowed one run in five innings for his seventh win in eight decisions. Three of the seven runs yielded by Giants starter Anthony DeSclafani in five innings were unearned. San Francisco left 15 runners on base and went 2-for-16 with runners in scoring position. The Giants had a three-game winning streak snapped.

Anthony Hudson will remain as interim head coach of the U.S. national team through the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Hudson was appointed interim coach on Jan. 4, four days after coach Gregg Berhalter’s contract expired. Hudson has led the Americans to two wins, one loss and two draws. He will lead the team in the CONCACAF Nations League semifinals and final from June 15-18 and the CONCACAF Gold Cup, which starts June 24 and runs through July 16. The U.S. Soccer Federation says it intends to hire a coach by the end of the summer.

The annual rivalry game between Florida and Georgia will be played in Jacksonville at least through 2025. The Southeastern Conference schools released a joint statement announcing their decision to exercise a two-year option in the contract to keep playing at TIAA Bank Field. The stadium is home to the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars. The universities had until June 30 to let the city know if they were picking up or declining the option. Georgia coach Kirby Smart has been outspoken about wanting to move the game to campus sites for recruiting purposes.

The New York Jets hosted punter Matt Araiza for a workout at the team’s facility six days after a San Diego State investigation found no wrongdoing by him in an alleged gang rape at an off-campus party in October 2021. Joe Linta, Araiza’s agent, confirmed the punter’s visit with the Jets during an interview on WFAN Sports Radio in New York. ESPN first reported what is believed to be Araiza’s first workout for an NFL team since he was released by Buffalo last August. The session Wednesday with the Jets could prompt other teams to bring in Araiza, who has maintained his innocence throughout.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman is receiving a lifetime achievement award from Sports Business Journal for the league's growth during his 30 years in charge. It fittingly comes at a time when the four teams left vying for the Stanley Cup play in Dallas, Las Vegas, South Florida and North Carolina. Expanding hockey's footprint into the U.S. Sun Belt has been a critical part of lifting league revenue from $437 million when he took over in the early 1990s to nearly $6 billion now.

The North Carolina Senate is making changes to a measure approved by the House earlier this year that would authorize and regulate sports gambling in the state. The measure that cleared the Senate's commerce committee on Wednesday would make it easier to bet in person and add horse racing to the betting options. And the state would take a larger cut from wagering revenues than it would under the House bill. These and other Senate changes could place obstacles between their House counterparts toward hammering out a final bill before this year’s primary General Assembly work session ends. About half of the states allow mobile or online sports betting.

DALLAS — History says it’s over, that the Golden Knights will win this Western Conference final and eventually sit four victories from a Stanley Cup championship.

Patrick Mahomes says he would rather win Super Bowls than a contest to make the most money. But the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is aware that new contracts for the Eagles' Jalen Hurts and the Ravens' Lamar Jackson have reset the market. Just three years after Mahomes signed a 10-year, $450 million extension, he has fallen to seventh in the league in terms of average annual salary. Few do not believe that Mahomes is worth more than what he is making, and that means a spotlight is on him during offseason workouts, and whether the Chiefs are willing to negotiate with him on a new contract.
