Teenage darts sensation Luke 'The Nuke' Littler, 16, opens his Christmas presents as he prepares for third round tie against Matt Campbell

Teenage darts sensation Luke Littler may have a crunch third round tie coming up as he looks to continue his fairytale journey at the PDC World Darts Championship, but the 16-year-old took time out of his busy schedule to open his Christmas presents.

The Cheshire teen has taken the tournament by storm, forcing bookmakers to send their odds tumbling on him claiming the title in his first-ever appearance at Alexandra Palace.

He has now gone from a 66-1 outsider to a 10-1 contender after his latest victory - not that he could legally step foot in a bookies himself.

Treated to chants of 'you've got school in the morning', Littler proved that his first-round win over former BDO world champion Christian Kist 3-0 was no fluke.

He followed up that dream debut by defeating UK Open champion Andrew Gilding 3-1 in the second round on Thursday night, showing why Phil 'The Power' Taylor has been singing his praises and he now faces Matt Campbell tomorrow evening.

Several fans passed on their well-wishes before one joked about how young Littler is

Littler, 16, has taken the PDC World Championship by storm and has reached the third round

But, between his victory over Gilding on December 21 and his third round tie on December 27, Littler - who has ditched his Xbox for Christmas practice - found time to celebrate the festivities.

In a photo shared by his mum, Lisa Litter on X, formerly Twitter, Luke was seen looking at his presents around the Christmas tree.

The post was accompanied with the caption: 'Just a 16 year old opening his prezzys.'

Several of the darts stars new-found fans passed on their best wishes for the festive season, before one - in reference to his age - cheekily asked: 'Does he know Father Christmas isn't real yet?'

Littler has also earned cult hero status from the tournament for his celebrations after victories, with the 16-year-old enjoying a kebab and then a chicken burger after his first and second round triumphs respectively.

Wayne Mardle is also among those to have praised him, with the commentator and former darts star describing him as 'extraordinary', adding he 'may be the most naturally talented player I've ever seen'.

Littler is now guaranteed at least £25,000, though some are starting to believe he could claim the ultimate £500,000 prize that goes with the Sid Waddell Trophy.

'When I went 2-0 up, I lost all my energy,' Littler said following his victory over Gilding after averaging 92.65 with five 180s.

'When Andrew got the set back, I didn't want to go 2-2. I was nervous as it is. I don't know how I got it over the line, but I've done it.

Littler has gained cult hero status for his post-victory food celebrations which have included a kebab (above) and chicken burger

'I said to my manager earlier, "I could win with a 50 average, I'm not bothered", because I know what Andrew's pace is like. He was pinging tops, here, there and everywhere. But he did let me in and I took my chances.'

Littler realises his star is rising and his way of measuring his new-found fame has been via his own Instagram. At the start of this tournament, he had 4,000 followers. Now, he has 28,000.

'It's unbelievable that so many people know about me,' added the boy wonder of Ally Pally.

'I wanted to come back after Christmas and I'm doing that, no matter what. I've overachieved.'
