Teixeira vs Hill Betting Analysis and Prediction

Numbered events are officially back in 2023, with the UFC making its return to Brazil to kick off the new year. UFC 283 will be jam-packed with great fights from start to finish, including two title fights to close out the main card.

Glover Teixeira (33-8) will be meeting Jamahal Hill (11-1) in the main event of the evening, fighting for the vacated UFC light heavyweight strap. This will also be the first Brazil event on the UFC schedule since the COVID-19 pandemic started.

Jiri Prochazka injured his shoulder and pulled out of his scheduled bout against Teixeira last month at UFC 282. He then vacated the belt so Teixeira can have his shot in a timely matter.

Teixeira is coming off a heartbreaking loss to Jiri Prochazka last June via 5th-round submission. A fight where he lost his UFC light heavyweight belt in Singapore while being up on the judges’ scorecards.

Hill is fresh off his biggest win over former title challenger Thiago Santos via 4th round TKO last August.

Glover Teixeira vs. Jamahal Hill Betting Analysis

Glover Teixeira

Teixeira has over 40 professional MMA fights and 33 wins (28 finishes) under his belt. His experience is level upon level above the experience of Jamahal Hill. Teixeira will be giving up two inches in both height and reach to Hill on Saturday.

The 43-year-old Brazilian has averages 3.80 strikes landed per minute, as well as absorbed an average of 3.93 strikes in that minute. This says that Teixeira is going to be there to get hit by Hill, which is a scary thought for anybody that wants him to win.

Where Teixeira really stands out is in his grappling. The old man seems to have a kind of strength that not many people in this game have. He averages 2.20 takedowns per 15 minutes in the octagon and will attempt 1.0 submission in those 15 minutes on average. He has taken over a style of fighting where he can still compete with the younger generation of fighters and bring them into deep waters.

Jamahal Hill

Hill has a much different resume than Teixeira, and the statistics show that as well. Hill has only 12 appearances in a professional fight, with seven wins via TKO/KO. He has three-straight finishes in the UFC, and that has earned him this title shot. However, his only loss has come from submission specialist Paul Craig via triangle and punches/elbows.

The 6’4” street fighter averages 7:16 of fight time in his seven UFC fights. He excels in the striking game, averaging an incredible 6.46 strikes landed per minute while only absorbing 3.51 strikes. Putting out that much volume in strikes while landing at 52% clips is very impressive.

It is clear to see that Hill is not a grappler and won’t engage in any of that if he doesn’t have to. He currently has ZERO offensive wrestling stats in the UFC but has a solid 65% takedown defense. This will be his biggest test in grappling, and grappling will surely have a massive impact on how this fight plays out.

Glover Teixeira vs. Jamahal Hill Betting Preview

UFC odds have this fight as virtually a pick ‘em bout at most sportsbooks. If the odds aren’t even, then Hill is picked as the slight favorite. This makes sense because of the age difference and the speed/power advantage that Hill will have in the cage on Saturday.

Teixeira has been the betting underdog in his last four UFC fights, but has only lost one of them, and he was winning that fight until he didn’t.

Hill will definitely be making a big jump in the magnitude of this fight, but this could potentially be the best possible matchup for him to have in his first title shot. An older man that has question marks on his cardio and durability now since his last time entering the octagon.

Teixeira Age and Experience

The experience and all-around skill are vastly in Teixeira’s favor, so we know that oddsmakers are leaning heavily on the age and durability of Teixeira while he is going against a young and dynamic athlete like Hill.

Teixeira vs Hill betting previews and analyses are something you need to take the time to look into before a fight like this. It is such an interesting matchup with lots of different factors; you need to break it down as well as possible if you are willing to make a bet on it.

Glover Teixeira vs. Jamahal Hill Betting Prediction

UFC predictions are the hardest to make in the sports betting industry. MMA is so unpredictable that you will go mad trying to predict the exact outcomes of fights every weekend. When you have a feeling about something, you need to double-check even before making a play.

Our final Teixeira vs Hill betting prediction is Teixeira coming out on top and regaining the UFC light heavyweight belt. His experience and grappling skills will be too much for Hill to handle.

Teixeira Will Have a Good Chance

Be ready for Hill to start fast and try to put the old man away early, but if Teixeira can be careful with that awkward orthodox/southpaw matchup and not get clipped too cleanly, he will have a good chance to succeed.

Teixeira will be able to hurt Hill on the feet early on and that will give him the respect and space he needs to set up takedowns on the inexperienced grappler. Don’t be surprised if Teixeira only needs one takedown to make quick work of Hill. People are underestimating the different levels of strength that Teixeira has on the ground.

On top of all that, the energy that Glover Teixeira will feed off of in his home country will give him what he needs to show up on Saturday night and leave it all out there in the octagon.
