Telangana teen dies by suicide after losing money on cricket betting

By Abdul Basheer: A 19-year-old construction worker allegedly died by suicide at his house in Telangana fearing harassment after he couldn't pay back the money he lost betting on cricket. The teen, identified as Prakash, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his bedroom by his family at their home in Nagulagadda Tanda, a small village in Telangana's Mahbubnagar district.

The police were informed about the death and Prakash's body was shifted to a local government hospital for an autopsy.

According to the police, Prakash and his cousin, Srinivas, placed bets on the outcome of the cricket match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Super Kings in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

Prakash reportedly placed a bet in favour of Punjab and lost. He owed Srinivas nearly Rs 15,000.

During the investigation, the police found a recording on Prakash's mobile phone of a man asking him to pay the money. It is not clear yet how much Prakash had to pay and why.

However, the police have registered a case of suspicious death based on his family’s statement.
