Templegate's tips: I really fancy these 13-2 and 9-2 chances on a massive weekend of horse racing here and abroad

The Sun

TEMPLEGATE takes an early look at four blockbuster races taking place this weekend - and finds at least two bets at nice prices.

There is the mega-money Coral-Eclipse at Sandown, a top quality Lancashire Oaks at Haydock and Grade 1 action from the US with a former Derby contender.

The on Sunday, 2000 Guineas winner Chaldean will try his luck in France.

There are plenty of punting opportunities - showing the winners don't have to stop now Royal Ascot is over.

Read on for our man's best bets below and strap yourselves in for a great few days of racing.

CORAL-ECLIPSE – Saturday

Saturday’s Coral-Eclipse is interesting because neither of the big two in the betting can be guaranteed to fly over the 1m2f trip.

Paddington has been fantastic over a mile and shapes as though longer will suit, while Emily Upjohn is better over 1m4f.

That could leave the way open for Anmaat to stun them both but Owen Burrows’ star needs a bit of juice in the ground to show his best.

It is good to soft at the moment but the forecast is dry until raceday.

I am not usually a no-bet kind of person but I genuinely can’t put my faith in any of that trio at this stage.

Paddington should stay on breeding and gets weight from his older rivals which tips the scales in his favour.

LANCASHIRE OAKS – Saturday

ROSSCARBERY looks a decent price for the Lancashire Oaks if you can get some of the 13-2 on offer with other layers still fair at 6-1.

She kicked off this season with a smooth Group 3 success at Cork before running well behind Via Sistina in the Pretty Polly at The Curragh last week.

She was hampered there and would have finished closer than fourth with a clear run.

Should trainer Paddy Twomey send her across the Irish Sea she would be hard to beat.

Mimikyu looks pretty short given she doesn’t appear to have masses in hand over the others and Ribblesdale winner Sea Silk Road makes more appeal as long as they don’t put too much water on the track – which may be a forlorn hope.

BET: ROSSCARBERY for the Lancashire Oaks at 13-2

BELMONT DERBY – Saturday

The Foxes flies the British flag in this red-hot contest that has been won by Aidan O’Brien twice since 2016.

Ballydoyle don’t have a runner and the Andrew Balding hope isn’t without a chance, although his stall 11 draw is a shocker.

It’s not impossible to win from there on a tight American track but eight of the past ten were from lower numbers, with 4-2-2 the past three.

Charlie Appleby has a solid chance with Silver Knott who is better berthed in six.

He was beaten by KALIK here last time and the Chad Brown runner can confirm that form.

He has an excellent record at the track, likes this trip and has a single-figure draw.

William Hill make him a 9-2 chance and that looks fair.

BET: KALIK for the Belmont Derby at 9-2 with William Hill

PRIX JEAN PRAT - Sunday

CHALDEAN had his Guineas win knocked slightly when second in the St James’s Palace Stakes but he was still second and it was only well inside the final furlong that he had to settle for second best behind Paddington.

The interesting thing here is the Jean Prat is over seven furlongs and the drop back in distance could actually help him.

He went from the front at Ascot and kicked for home a bit early under Frankie perhaps.

Oisin Murphy takes over and he can get the timing right at Deauville.

BET: CHALDEAN for the Prix Jean Prat
