Texas Sports Betting: No launch expected until 2023

Texas sports betting is not yet legalized. The next realistic push can only happen in 2023. Attorney General Ken Paxton ruled in 2017 that wagering on Daily Fantasy Sports contests was illegal under state law. Both the leading providers of DFS, DraftKings and FanDuel, have sought to bring their own legal challenges to this opinion.

Texas is not going to legalize sports betting. Louisiana and Arkansas have legalized it. New Mexico is still not a part of the legal sports betting market. Oklahoma lawmakers have passed a sports gambling bill, but it's not yet lawable.   The Pueblo of Santa Ana tribe in New Mexican has already accepted a legal bet in October 2018. It's challenging the legality of sports bets under the Tribal Compact. Colorado legalized sportsbetting in May 2020.
