Juventus' Nicolo Fagioli has already been suspended for seven months while Newcastle star Tonali is facing an even lengthier spell on the sidelines

Sandro Tonali came on for the final 21 minutes of Newcastle's Premier League win over Crystal Palace at St James' Park on Saturday afternoon. The Italian's introduction was warmly received. The home fans even unfurled a banner in his honour. "Forza Tonali" it read.

Eddie Howe appreciated the show of support and admitted that the midfielder now faces an uncertain future. "Who knows what's ahead?" the Newcastle manager said. "He's had the love of the supporters today, but that's difficult to maintain over a long period of time."

And there is now a legitimate concern that Tonali could be sidelined for a long period of time because of his involvement in an Italian investigation into illegal betting.

So, what exactly is Tonali accused of? Who else has been accused? And what happens next? GOAL will attempt to explain all below...
