The Jury: Bets and fades for March 26
The Jury is back with their thoughts on this weekend's stakes action. There's Louisiana Derby Day at Fair Grounds and the $12 million Dubai World Cup.
Gam's Mission finished her three-year-old season on a good note. She returns in Saturday's Tom Benson Memorial at Fair Grounds.
Ruthin, one of Wesley Ward's Royal Ascot team from last summer, returns in Saturday night's Serena's Song S. at Turfway Park. She was a debut winner on the Keeneland turf, but she tired to seventh in a 27-horse field and was beaten about 3 1/2 lengths.
Chess Chief is defending his title at the New Orleans Classic on March 26th. The Dallas Stewart trainee is a complete bet-against everywhere else. He won last year's New. Orleans by a head at a miserly 5-1 and the Dec. 26 Tenacious S. by 10-2.
JS is going to play against #2 Sacred Life in Saturday's Muniz Memorial Classic (G2) at Fair Grounds. VH is betting on Chad Brown-trained duo #3 Devamani and #11 Pinehurst. JS, KS and VH are looking forward to the Louisiana Derby (G2) on March 26. Vh is excited about the British flat (turf) season kicking off at Doncaster on Saturday. The Lincoln Handicap is also on the agenda. The action in Britain doesn't kick into high gear until the Craven meeting at Newmarket in mid-April. Following the action from over there is a refreshing respite from the general monotony of the domestic product. It often yields terrific wagering opportunities.
