The one thing not happening to the Dolphins on Wayne Bennett’s watch: ‘I wouldn’t be betting on it’

The Dolphins launched their first pre-season on the day the new club was officially established. Coach Wayne Bennett has declared the Dolphins will not be wooden-spooners under his watch. Bennett said the club would forge a cross-town rivalry with Brisbane to match that of the Manchester derby in the Premier League.

Brisbane Broncos are preparing for their first pre-season run. The Broncos have recruited hard-nosed forwards from Melbourne. Former Storm forward Felise Kaufusi and former South Sydney front-rower Mark Nicholls are also on the books. Bennett had a five-year plan to win a title when they started in 1988 and achieved it by 1992.  Bennett wants to create a Brisbane-Dolphins rivalry. He believes it will be great for the game. It will take five to 10 years to get to the top. There are 16 NRL clubs in the competition. Brisbane will start the league next year.
