MLB odds:

  • Moneyline: Tigers -125, White Sox +105
  • Runline: Tigers -1.5 (+154), White Sox +1.5 (-185)
  • Total: Over/Under 8 Runs (-120, +105)

DraftKings sportsbook offers those odds. However, we encourage MLB bettors to peruse various Michigan Sportsbooks and find the best lines the day of the Tigers and White Sox match-up.

Hot off three tough games against the Yanks (and a series loss), the Tigers hope to make prey of the ailing Chicago White Sox. Both teams play in the AL Central, and the Tigers are ranked third in the division. The White Sox trail the Tigers by 9 wins while the Kansas City Royals lag behind with nearly 100 losses.

This translates to a favorable match-up for Detroit. A return to Comerica Park could mean a strong showing from the Michigan MLB team.

Mike Clevinger (6-7, 3.90 ERA, 87 SO) vs. Reese Olson (3-6, 4.65 ERA, 79)

As the old adage goes, “Pitching is 75% of baseball.” If that’s true, the Detroit Tigers’ slight edge over the White Sox might not hold up on the diamond tonight.

The Tigers will field righty Reese Olson with a paltry 3-6 and 4.65 ERA. Olson can’t seem to catch fire on the mound, and the White Sox will try to take full advantage of his flickering presence.

Meanwhile, Chicago’s south side team calls on Mike Clevinger to lead the team tonight. With a 6-7 record, 87 strikeouts, and a 3.90 ERA, Clevinger has proven capable of stifling batters.

The stats may tell one story, but the reality says something different. These pitches met less than a week ago, and the results were surprising.

Emerging from the Yankee’s-shaped chokehold provides the Tigers with a much-needed odds boost. Sportsbooks give Detroit an ever-so-slight edge at around -125. In our opinion, this makes the moneyline a more desirable bet than the run line. Are the Tigers capable of a 2-run win at home against the White Sox? Absolutely. Does that mean it’ll happen? Absolutely not.

However, the Tigers met with the White Sox thrice last week.

  • September 1: Tigers 4, White Sox 2
  • September 2: Tigers 10, White Sox 0
  • September 3: Tigers 3, White Sox 2

That second game featured the exact same pitcher match-up. Clevinger allowed 12 hits, and the Tigers marched to a 10-point shutout. Could this week spark a repeat performance from Olson, or will Clevinger adjust?

This bet is about as close to even as you can get, and we like the look of the Tigers. Returning home from a tough stretch of games and repeating a pitcher-matchup that yielded a 10-run victory seems like a recipe for success in Detroit.

We’re also intrigued by the Under this week. At even money, it’s an enticing bet. In two of three games last week, these teams combined for 6 runs or fewer. With the line at 8, the Under could be a savvy wager this evening.

Let’s take those bets and combine them into one. We like this SGP because history could repeat itself with a few low-margin Detroit wins. This first game of the series could be fertile ground for a similar outcome. At +265, there’s some solid value in this combined bet.

  • Detroit Tigers moneyline
  • Under 7.5 runs
