The Tigers can win the four-game series against the division-leading Twins on Thursday afternoon. The Twins have now lost two straight after winning five in a row. Still, Detroit is looking up in the standings at Minnesota, trailing by eight games. Only a win in the sunshine today, and two more wins against the Twins next week will help the Tigers climb into the race. If they do, MLB bettors in Michigan will have even more reason to place props and moneyline bets on their favorite team.

MLB odds

The O/U odds are steady for these two teams, and present a betting option for those who follow runs and pitching matchups. A $50 winning bet on the Under would pay $55 plus the $50 stake.

  • Moneyline: Tigers +128, Twins -148
  • Runline: Tigers +1.5 (-135), Twins -1.5 (+114)
  • Total: Over/Under 8.5 Runs (-115, -105)

Detroit is an underdog at home against the more talented Twins. So far this series, Detroit has been blown out, won behind their pitching ace, and won a slugfest. On Thursday maybe it’s time for another type of game: extra innings. More on that below in our bet of the day.

Reese Olson (1-5, 4.94 ERA, 50 K in 54.2 IP) vs Kenta Maeda (3-6, 4.22 ERA, 72 K in 59.2 IP)

As goes the pitching, so go the Tigers. On Monday, the Twins rolled to an easy victory because Joey Wentz was sent to the hill, where he stunk like a junebug under a heat lamp. Reese Olson needs to avoid that fate: he’s allowed 13 earned runs and four homers in his last 16 innings. That means he’s essentially been like a batting practice pitcher. The young Georgian must limit scoring opportunities and hard contact against the Twins if Detroit has a chance. We place the odds of that happening at less than 40 percent, so bet accordingly, especially on the early innings and strikeout markets.

The most unpredictable facet of baseball is the starting pitching. After you get past the top 5-7% of starters, the rest are retreads, young prospects, never-wases, and who-knows-what’s? That’s why it can be so difficult to know what a journeyman pitcher like Kenta Maeda. In April, Maeda had a 9.00 ERA, and after an arm injury, he’s come back and pitched well, allowing only 12 ER in his last eight starts. Minnesota has won five of his last six starts, and the Japanese righty will carry confidence with him to the mound on Thursday.

In June in a start at Comerica Park, Kenta Maeda allowed only three hits and zero runs in five innings as he manhandled the Tigers lineup, fanning 8 batters… Akil Baddoo has a lifetime .400 average with a double, two triples, and a homer against Maeda… No Minnesota batter has faced Olson more than three times…

Inning of Last Run to Score, 10th Or Later (+700 from DraftKings)

Detroit has played 15 extra-inning games, but only one since the All-Star break. If this one goes extras, you’ll win $700 on a $100 bet if this game goes extras and is won by either team.

We hit on three of our four bets in Wednesday’s parlay. But that’s not good enough to pay out a winner. We’re back at it today with a Detroit Tigers same-game parlay, which we built with the DraftKings betting app.

  • Game to Go Into Extra Innings
  • Akil Baddoo To Collect At Least One Hit

Odds on this simple two-leg parlay are +950 from DraftKings.
