It's been a quiet week so far in the National Hockey League with zero games on both Tuesday and Thursday! However, Wednesday's action is deep with a hefty 14 games on tap with only the four clubs that participated in the NHL Global Series Sweden not in action as they re-acclimate to North American time zones.

Today's NHL Betting Picks - Winnipeg Jets vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

O/U: 6.5 | Moneyline: TB (-122)

It's a rare cross-conference matchup tonight in Tampa Bay as the Winnipeg Jets pay a visit to the Lightning as small moneyline underdogs.

It's been a strong season for a Jets team surrounded by uncertainty in the offseason. Winnipeg is in the mix for the Central division lead with a 10-5-2 record on the campaign including a healthy 4-2-1 record on the road to complement a rock-solid 6-3-1 record on home ice.

The club has played well at both ends of the ice. They sit fifth in overall offense with 3.71 goals per game and while their 3.12 goals against per game rank in the middle of the pack, they also sit fourth in expected goals against per 60 minutes of five-on-five action.

The Bolts remain in survival mode with No. 1 netminder Andrei Vasilevskiy having pre-season back surgery but he is inching his way toward his return. In the meantime, Tampa has gone 9-6-4 to remain fourth in a tough Atlanta division. Predictably, their biggest problem has been keeping the puck out of the back of their net with their 3.63 goals against per game sitting in a share of 27th with the lowly Columbus Blue Jackets.

The good news is the offense remains potent at eighth overall and both ends of their special teams have been fantastic, especially a power play that ranks fourth overall at 30.3%. The club's underlying metrics are subpar, most notably sitting 24th in expected goals against/60 at 5v5 as they haven't given Jonas Johansson much help on the back end.

It's always nice to have a sizeable goaltending advantage like the Jets do tonight with Connor Hellebuyck likely taking on Johansson. Tampa has won three in a row but just six of their 10 home games despite collecting a point in eight of those contests. They haven't been as dominant as they would prefer at Amalie Arena.

Let's see if the Jets can go into Tampa Bay and collect a moneyline win at plus-money odds.

Pick: Jets moneyline (+102, DraftKings sportsbook)

Today's NHL Betting Picks - Boston Bruins vs. Florida Panthers

O/U: 6 | Moneyline: BOS (-115)

It's a titanic tilt tonight in Sunrise as the Florida Panthers and Boston Bruins get together in a battle of the top two teams in the Atlantic.

The Bruins have just a single regulation loss on the season as they continue to dominate the game defensively. Not only is their 2.18 goals against per game easily the best mark in hockey, but Boston also sits first on the penalty kill. Their expected goals against/60 at 5v5 slips to 10th but this has, once again, been a dominant team on the back end.

Their offense is just outside the top 10 at 11th and their power play has been middling but this team continues to win on defense.

As for the Panthers, they managed to get by just fine despite missing the likes of Aaron Ekblad, Brandon Montour, and Sam Bennett for nearly the entire season to this point. The trio is back healthy and this Florida Panthers club should be a force moving forward.

They haven't dominated at either end of the ice but they do sit ninth in overall defense and eighth in expected goals against/60 at 5v5 despite the absences of Ekblad and Montour. They haven't been as dangerous as they'd like offensively as they are middle of the pack both overall and analytically and, unfortunately, they could be without No. 1 center Aleksander Barkov again Wednesday after he missed Monday's 5-3 win over the Oilers.

Amerant Bank Arena has not been a fun place for visiting clubs this season. The Panthers are 7-1-0 on home ice this season, and while the B's are still 6-1-2 on the road, they've been more beatable outside of TD Garden where they have gone 7-0-1 on the campaign.

Even with another potential absence from Barkov, I like the Panthers to get up for a big game on home ice tonight and take down the mighty Bruins on the moneyline.

Pick: Panthers moneyline (-105, DraftKings sportsbook)
