Toddler born with spinal condition defies the odds by learning to walk

Lacey Grace Bower has spina bifida. She had an operation on her back while she was still inside her mother's womb. Now she's starting to learn how to walk. She was born by C-section on July 20, 2020 at 12:42 p.m. at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Missouri. Her parents, Michelle and Michael, were advised to terminate the pregnancy. They refused and she underwent a risky three-and-a-half hour surgery to fix the hole in her spine. It was a success. Lacey spent five days in recovery and a week before she could walk, but she still needs a wheelchair.
