Top fantasy predictions for Afghanistan vs Pakistan match in ODI Cricket World Cup: Players to pick in your Dream 11 for CWC 2023 clash today

Afghanistan will play their fifth match of the 2023 World Cup as they take on Pakistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Chennai on 23 October.

Hashmatullah Shahidi's side have only won one game so far, registering a shock 69-run victory over England in Delhi. They have not hit those heights in their other games, and in fact put in quite a poor display against New Zealand after recording that win.

Pakistan began their campaign with two wins, against Netherlands and Sri Lanka, both in Hyderabad. However, they lost their next two matches against India and Australia, both by significant margins. They will be hoping to arrest this slide against Afghanistan.

Here, The Sporting News brings you all the tips for your fantasy team for this game.

Top fantasy picks and tips for AFG vs PAK

Mohammad Rizwan: Wicket-keeper

Despite Babar Azam's patchy form in this World Cup, Pakistan have not suffered with the bat as the players around him have well and truly stepped up; most notably Mohammad Rizwan.

With innings of 68, 131* (in a record run chase), 49 and 46 so far, Rizwan has been the side's stand-out batter and is at the time of writing the tournament's leading run-scorer. He should be the first name on the teamsheet, especially against an Afghanistan attack that can be a little bit up and down.

Shaheen Shah Afridi: Bowler

Despite lacking the support of Naseem Shah in this World Cup, Shaheen Shah Afridi has been excellent so far in the tournament, exemplifying the adage of 'form is temporary, class is permanent'.

His firts two matches produced 1/37 and 1/66, but he took 2/36 against India even as his teammates took a pounding and then took 5/54 at the batter-friendly Chinnaswamy Stadium when Australia scored 367/9. If anyone can overcome the constraints of conditions, it is Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Rashid Khan: Bowler

For as long as anyone can remember, Rashid Khan has been Afghanistan's talisman with the ball. Whether it's to take wickets or stem the flow of runs, he is their go-to player.

He went wicketless against Bangladesh, before picking up the wickets of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan against India. Rashid was instrumental in Afghanistan's victory over England, scoring 23 and taking 3/37 to round off the win. He took only one wicket against New Zealand but was also the victim of two dropped catches. His prowess at the back end of the innings with the bat is also useful when it comes to gaining fantasy points.
