Tottenham fans in disbelief as Emerson Royal's dad says son is ready to join bigger club and more suited to Real Madrid

TOTTENHAM supporters are in disbelief after Emerson Royal’s father said his son wants to take a “bigger leap” and “fight for titles” and claimed that he “fits Real Madrid”.

The wing-back, who hit back at his dad's comments, joined from Barcelona in 2021 for £25 million but has missed their recent slump due to injury.

He sat out yesterday’s dismal 6-1 thrashing at Newcastle with the Brazilian international last appearing on the pitch in last month’s 3-3 draw at Southampton - which proved to be Antonio Conte’s last in charge.

Since then the club have seen their Champions League aspirations explode - and it seemed that the 24-year-old was eyeing up a way out of North London.

Royal’s dad Emerson Zulu, who acts as his agent, is quoted as telling the Charla Podcast: “There is a great possibility that Emerson will leave Tottenham.”

“We believe it’s time for him to take a bigger leap and to go to a team that fights for titles. I think he fits a giant like Real Madrid.”

But Royal has moved to play down his father’s comments by stating: “Although he is entitled to his own opinion, I have never spoken to him about it and I have always made it clear that I am happy at Tottenham.

“As a professional athlete, I am proud to represent the team that believed in me and gave me the opportunity to showcase my skills.”

Royal still has three years left on his contract but, like the rest of the squad, came under fire from former boss Conte and supporters alike after another dismal campaign.

And with Pedro Porra signed in January and being deployed at right wing-back in his absence, shocked fans seem like they would gladly get rid of the South American.

Although not many believe that LaLiga giants Madrid would take him.

One fan reacted to the comments with: “When Emerson Royal wants to take a “bigger leap” from your club there is no coming back. Might as well liquidate us now.”

Another tweeted: “Do they have a Real Madrid in the Chinese Super League?”

A fellow Spurs fan said: “Yeah when I think about the Galacticos...the giants of the sport...I think Emerson. For sure.”

While a fellow fan said: “I literally laughed out loud.”
