UFC Vegas 86: Hermansson vs Pyfer – Predictions & Best Bets

Zac Pauga ML (-122) vs. Bogdan Guskov

Perhaps my favorite moneyline number for this card is Zac Pauga. While Pauga has been up and down in the UFC, one thing that you can’t knock is his ability to wrestle. He comes from a wrestling background and trains with a team that clearly has that aspect of his game fine tuned.

Standing across from Pauga is Guskov, who stuggled terribly in his debut with the wrestling of Volkan Oezdemir. Oezdemir isn’t known for his wrestling, so Guskov struggling in that fight doesn’t bode well for him in this one.

Carlos Prates – Wins Inside the Distance (-150)

Nobody impressed me more coming off the Contender Series this past year than Prates. He looked like an absolute sniper in picking apart and finishing Mitch Ramirez. Ramirez is a good prospect himself, so to make him look so pedestrian is no small feat. Prates has finished six straight fights with strikes. Trevin Giles has been finished in three of his last five fights and seems primed for another here.

Darrius Flowers ML (+120) vs Michael Johnson

Flowers wasn’t the most impressive on Contender Series or in his UFC debut. After a freak injury took out his opponent on Contender Series, he was submitted by Jake Matthews. While that may have him as an underdog here, he’s back in his proper weight class. He also had his moments on the feet with Matthews. Pair those things with Michael Johnson having some real miles on his tires, and this is a great spot for Flowers.

Jeremiah Wells ML (-148) vs Max Griffin

Wells is another moneyline I like this weekend. While Griffin is notoriously tough, there is just so much power coming back from Wells in this one. In addition, I think Wells should have a substantial grappling advantage if he does want to take it there. You’re laying a bit of chalk here, but I think the juice is worth the squeeze.

Bruna Brasil ML (+230) vs Loma Lookboonme

Weight classes exist for a reason. This fight, I believe, is going to be a clear example of that.

Loma Lookboonme is really an atomweight. She’s fought plenty at 105lbs and looks like she could still make it today. Brasil, meanwhile, is a massive strawweight. Although the size won’t always be the difference maker, the fact that Lookboonme does her best work in the clinch really hurts her in this one. I expect Brasil to work control against the cage into advantagous positions.

Robert Bryczek – Wins via 1st Round KO (+165)

I usually don’t like to get too cute, but for this one of my UFC Vegas 86 picks I did just that. Robert Bryczek has phenomenal striking for a middleweight. He throws straight shots right to the target and works the body a ton as well. Ihor Potieria is not only taking this fight on short notice, but down a weight class. Neither of those are good signs when it comes to being knocked out.
