US Open 2023 First Round Odds & Picks: Best Bets for Day 1 & Day 2

Today marks the beginning of the final Grand Slam of the tennis season, as the 2023 US Open will get underway in the Big Apple.

There is a lot of exciting tennis to look forward to over the next two weeks, and there’s also a lot of money to be made.

The latter is especially true for the first few days of the tournament.

As with the other Grand Slam tennis tournaments, the men’s and women’s singles draws open with 128 players. In a week’s time, the quarterfinals will be here.

With so many matches ahead in just the next couple of days, it might be a little overwhelming trying to wade through US Open odds to find the best betting value.

That’s what I’m here for, so let’s take a look at some of the first-round matches and odds you should be sizing up. With nothing standing out for me in men’s singles, all of these picks are on the women’s side.

Best US Open First Round Picks

Odds are via Bovada.

Caroline Wozniacki to win in straight sets (+105)

Wozniacki, a two-time US Open finalist, returned to action at the Canadian Open earlier this month, over three and a half years after hanging up her racket.

She is 1-2 in her comeback, with a straight-sets win over Kimberly Birrell in her first match back in Montreal and straight-sets losses to Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova and Varvara Gracheva.

She gets the final slot of the night at Louis Armstrong Stadium in her Grand Slam return, and while that is a lot of pressure, I expect her to handle it well.

Prozorova won a trio of three-set matches to qualify for the US Open main draw, including a victory over former French Open semifinalist Tamara Zidansek.

But for all of her rust, Wozniacki was competitive against both Vondrousova (2-6, 5-7) and Gracheva (4-6, 4-6). Against a player who is not on the level of either of those players, I’m looking for Wozniacki to get it done in two.

Ekaterina Alexandrova ML (-105) vs Leylah Fernandez

Alexandrova, the #22 seed in the US Open women’s singles draw, is coming off of an appearance in the final of last week’s tournament in Cleveland.

In that final, she was up a set and two games away from the title, but she couldn’t finish Sara Sorribes Tormo, who rallied for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win. That loss should give Alexandrova, who was seeking her second title of the season, a little extra fire to see off Fernandez, who is not yet back to the level that saw her reach the US Open semis in 2021.

Also, Alexandrova’s recent form makes her a great option. Since losing to Camila Giorgi in her first match in Rome in May, Alexandrova has won multiple matches in five of six tournaments. In that stretch, she reached the third round at the French Open and the fourth round at Wimbledon.

Tamara Korpatsch +4 Games (-125) & ML (+180) vs Irina-Carmelia Begu

The oddsmakers have Begu as a firm favorite for this match, but even though she has made it out of the first round in seven consecutive Grand Slams, hard courts are not her favorite surface at all.

That makes the scales far more evenly balanced for Tuesday’s matchup with Korpatsch, who made the semifinals in Prague earlier this month after coming through the qualifiers.

Korpatsch lost a three-setter to 16-year-old phenom Mirra Andreeva in the first round in Cleveland last week, dropping the final three games after holding a 30-15 lead while serving for the match. But prior to that disappointing defeat, she had won her first main-draw match at four consecutive WTA tournaments.

Even if she isn’t able to pull off the win, I expect Korpatsch to play Begu close enough to cover the games spread.

Where to Bet on the Wimbledon Men’s Singles Final

The US Open betting odds mentioned in this article came from Bovada, but they aren’t the only sports betting site out there offering Wimbledon odds and other tennis odds.

There are a number of online sportsbooks that are good for betting on tennis, but the above books are four that we highly recommend.
