Vanderbilt score prediction vs. Wake Forest: College football Week 2

Vanderbilt football started 2-0 but with two uninspiring performances against inferior opponents. That isn't likely to fly against Wake Forest in its toughest test of the season so far.

Coach Clark Lea leads the Commodores into Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to take on the Demon Deacons (1-0) in the back half of a home-and-home series. Wake Forest won, 45-25, last season in Nashville.

The Commodores used to play the Demon Deacons more often as part of a rivalry series, facing off seven times between 2005-13. Vanderbilt is 10-7 against Wake Forest all time.

In its Week 1 matchup, the Demon Deacons defeated Elon, 37-17.

The game will be at 10 a.m. CT on ACC Network from Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium.

Mitch Griffis replaces Sam Hartman as Wake Forest quarterback

Wake Forest lost star quarterback Sam Hartman, who transferred to Notre Dame, and receiver AT Perry, who's now in the NFL. Fellow receiver Donavon Greene is also out with a knee injury.

Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea isn't particularly concerned about the specific personnel given the challenge of facing the Demon Deacons' slow mesh offense. New quarterback Mitch Griffis threw for 329 yards in Wake Forest's opener against Elon but he was also sacked four times.

Vanderbilt injury report

Vanderbilt is getting healthier after missing a large number of players on both lines against Alabama A&M. Offensive lineman Leyton Nelson and defensive linemen Linus Zunk and Darren Agu are set to return after missing last week. Safety De'Rickey Wright (ankle sprain) is still questionable but trending in the right direction after practicing Thursday.

Offensive lineman Junior Uzebu is questionable for Saturday.

Vanderbilt-Wake Forest kickoff a rare 10 a.m. start

The game will kick off at 10 a.m. CT, or 11 a.m. in Winston-Salem. While Vanderbilt is frequently accustomed to playing 11 a.m. games, the Commodores have not had a game kick off before 11 a.m. Central since at least 2006.

On Saturday, forecasts call for temperatures in the mid-70s with a chance of rain, similar to the weather in Nashville when Wake Forest visited a year ago. If it is wet, the Commodores will need to take better care of the ball than a year ago, when two fumbles helped get the Demon Deacons out to a big lead.

Vanderbilt footbll score prediction vs Wake Forest

Wake Forest 45, Vanderbilt 31: Wake Forest seems likely to put up a lot of points in this matchup, and Vanderbilt has yet to show it can keep up in high-scoring games.
