NHL Best Bets: Anaheim Ducks ML (+155) on BETDSI

Yes you read that right. I’m on the Anaheim Ducks. Yes, they are playing the best team in the league, the Las Vegas Golden Knights. Yes, the Ducks were one of the worst teams in the league last season. But the Ducks have already turned heads and are currently 6th in the entire Western Conference (only two points behind the Colorado Avalanche).

The Ducks have had three days of rest and are currently on a five game win streak. Their young core of players are clicking with the veterans picked up this offseason. Centermen Mason McTavish and Leo Carlsson have already impressed. Young defenseman Pavel Mintyukov is making a case to be a Calder finalist. And rookie goaltender Lukas Dostal holds a 2.8 goals against avg and .920 save percentage.

Last year Anaheim was one of the best targets for shots on goal and goals against. This year they rank 19th in goals against and they have the 17th best penalty kill in the league. Things are shifting in Anaheim for the better.

Tonight they get the best team in the league. Yes, this will be a tough match. But Vegas is coming off a hard fought win against what many consider the second best team in the West, the Colorado Avalanche. Not only did they travel last night, they lost an hour of sleep due to Daylight Savings.

I like the fresh legs of a young and emerging team to handle a tired Golden Knights team who are due for a loss. Playing one unit nets 1.5 units in this NHL best bet.

NHL Player Prop: Mason McTavish point (+100) on Bovada

One of the big reasons the Ducks have found early success is from the play of their young core. Leo Carlsson was the 2nd overall pick in a generational draft. He is playing on the top line with Zegras and Troy Terry, which is allowing McTavish to get easier matches to exploit.

In 10 games McTavish already has 12 points, proving why he was taken as the 3rd overall pick in 2021. This increase in points could be a direct result from him being more of a shooting threat this season as well. McTavish is averaging 5.3 shot attempts per game compared to his 2.1 average from last season.

As mentioned before the new found depth on the Ducks allows the 2nd line of Vatrano-McTavish-Strome to find mismatches and capitalize on them. McTavish finds most of his points 5v5 instead of on the power play. This is good because not only does Vegas have one of the best penality kills, they allow the 5th least amount of power play opportunities to opponents.

Not only is McTavish point is one of the NHL best bets of the night, his SOG prop for +130 on Bovada looks great as well. While he has only hit this line 50% of the time this season the Ducks are well rested and Vegas should be tired. This could lead to The Golden Knights playing a bit more sloppy.

Frank Vatrano o2.5 SOG (-130) on BETUS

Frank Vatrano has been a fantastic fit for the Ducks. Since joining the team he has put up 51 points (10 of which have come this season). He leads the Ducks in goals with 9 this season. And boy, can the kid ever rip puck.

Since the start of the season Vatrano has hit his SOG line 70% of the time. He has hit in all four games at home this season and is averaging 6.3 shot attempts per game. He has hit his line against tough defensive teams like Carolina, Dallas and Boston and should be ready to shoot tonight.

The Las Vegas Golden Knights are tough on shots, but this didn’t stop Vatrano from hitting in 2 of 3 games last season. Vatrano goal is +195 on BETUS and worth a sprinkle as well. It doesn’t feel natural betting on this many Anaheim Ducks props and sides, but in this early season they have been undervalued NHL best bets every time they play.
