Vermont Confirms Sports Betting Catalog Ahead Of Jan Launch

The Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery has confirmed the catalog of approved sports for the launch of the wagering market which is set to go live on Jan. 11. 

A large array of global sports will be allowed to be wagered on when the market goes live in the new year, with only a small number of notable exceptions. 

While NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA and MLS games are all approved for wagering, more niche sports are included in the catalog such as World Chase Tag, the Drone Racing League and Major League Fishing. 

A number of collegiate sporting tournaments are included in the sports betting catalog, such as NCAA football, basketball, baseball and wrestling. However, the key exception is that wagering on Vermont collegiate teams is not allowed unless the team is participating in a tournament format event. Wagering on Vermont High School teams is also strictly prohibited by the law. 

It comes as the Vermont regulator confirmed that FanDuel, Fanatics, and DraftKings are approved to launch sports betting platforms in the state when it goes live in the new year. 

The three operators are projected to generate roughly $7m in tax revenue annually via a deal with the state that includes an operator fee and revenue share program.

“I first proposed Vermont legalize sports wagering several years ago, and it’s good to see it come to fruition,” said Gov. Phil Scott.  

“Vermonters and visitors alike will soon be able to access a regulated sports wagering marketplace, which will come with important consumer protections and generate revenue for the State.”
