Victor Wembanyama favored for ROTY

Not really a surprise here, but the No. 1 overall pick in the last draft is the safest pick for rookie of the year

As we wait for the beginning of a new season in the NBA, it is time for speculations. And, of course, betting in the futures market. Specifically, in this case, the prize of Rookie of the Year. We could expect nothing different from that, but it is still worth reporting that Victor Wembanyama is favored for ROTY.

Wembanyama was selected by the San Antonio Spurs as the No. 1 overall pick in the last NBA draft. Even though he didn’t debut in the league yet, he is considered one of the biggest talents in the past drafts. Some might even say that we don’t have such talent available in the draft since LeBron James.

Whether that’s true or not we will only see when he starts playing in the league. But as a matter of fact, right now, if you want to bet on the Rookie of the Year market, know that he is the favorite. The odds for Wembanyama to be the ROTY are -135. That implies a 57.5% of probability of this happening.

Closing the top 3 favorites to win this prize we have Chet Holmgren (OKC) and Scoot Henderson (POR). The curious fact here is that Holmgren is not a rookie anymore. He was selected by OKC as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 draft. But he missed the entire season with an injury. So, since the bookies are listing him in second with odds +350, the NBA might be considering him for the prize.
