Xiyu Wang v Brenda Fruhvirtova Head to Head

This will be a first meeting between the two.

Wang Off to a 2-6 Start

After making quite an impression in 2022, China’s Xiyu Wang will be disappointed of how things have gone in 2023 so far.

The lefty has won just two matches from six tournaments that she has featured in. But the good thing for her is she won one of those matches in Indian Wells, so she will be a bit confident ahead of her first round match in Miami.

Wang, who had to withdraw from her opening round match in Auckland, lost her opener at the Australian Open and the Hua Hin Open before registering her first win of the season over Alison Riske in Merida. She lost in the second round though and then made a first round exit from Monterrey.

At the Indian Wells Open, Wang ousted Olga Danilovic in a come-from-behind three-set win, but fell in the second round to Anastasia Potapova.

The 21-year-old had a 41-25 season last year across levels. She reached her first WTA 125 final in Valencia and finished runner-up in three ITF finals. At the tour level, she had finished with a 13-10 record, which included two semifinal and two quarterfinal finishes.

This will be her third appearance in Miami. She reached the second round in 2019, but was knocked out in the first round in 2021.

Fruhvirtova Looking to Impress

Breanda Fruhvirtova is just 15, but she is already made an impression.

The Czech, who played eight ITF finals last year and won all eight of them, reached her first major main draw at the Australian Open this year. Fruhvirtova defeated Natalija Kostić, Daria Snigur and Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the three qualifying rounds, but fell to Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the first round in straight sets.

She is 8-2 overall from all levels in 2023 though, having won her first ITF title of 2023 in Bangalore earlier this month.

Fruhvirtova, whose elder sister Linda won the Chennai Open title in India last year, defeated India’s Ankita Raina in the final in Bangalore to win her ninth ITF title.

Ranked no. 163, Brenda plays her best tennis on clay, but all her wins this year have come on hard courts. Can she impress on her WTA 1000 debut in Miami.

Wang v Fruhvirtova Prediction and Tip

Wang’s got much more experience at this level. She also looked in good form in Indian Wells, winning her opener in three and then going down fighting in another three-setter. So she will be the one who is teh favourite in this match against the debutant.
