War Horse Casino operators consider ballot initiative for mobile sports betting

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - With Super Bowl Sunday just around the corner, a lot of people are thinking about making wagers on the big game. But people who want to do that legally in the state of Nebraska have to go to a brick-and-mortar facility, relying on a casino teller or using a machine.

Ho-Chunk Inc. leaders said one of the main requests they get is for a mobile sports betting option, and that’s something they’re looking into.

Right now, they’re getting feedback from hundreds of Nebraskans with a poll, and they’re considering working on a ballot initiative that could go to voters this November.

”It’s one thing to have a personal opinion, it’s another thing to vote against the opinion of the state of Nebraska, you know, of all the people,” said Lance Morgan, president of Ho-Chunk Inc. “So I think that the politicians will come on board, if the people speak loudly enough on it.”

War Horse has partnered with the biggest mobile sports betting companies in the country. Draft Kings, Fan Duel, and Bet MGM, on this.

Morgan said he’s not certain on what path they’ll take to pursue expanded sports betting, either in the legislature or by ballot initiative, but Morgan said War Horse will release more information on their poll next week.
