Washington at Stanford Prediction

The Washington Huskies will head down to Palo Alto to meet the Stanford Cardinal in Pac-12 play this weekend from Stanford Stadium. Stanford and Washington have faced off in a contested series since 1920, with UW holding a slim 45-44-4 lead, after winning the last two meetings.

Washington Huskies Preview

Washington climbed to 7-0 after defeating Arizona State in Seattle by eight, 15-7. The Huskies got a real scare from the Sun Devils, and after improbably failing to score a touchdown, they’ll look to bounce back here against a vulnerable Stanford team. The Washington offense is scoring 40.1 ppg, while passing for 403.3!ypg, rushing for 103.9 ypg, and converting 40% of their third downs.

Washington Player Notes

Michael Penix Jr. had his first forgettable performance of the season against Arizona State, passing for 275 yards and a pair of picks. The veteran quarterback has been much sharper than that this season, and he remains a front runner for the Heisman Trophy award. Penix Jr. has passed for 2,576 yards with 20 touchdowns to five interceptions through seven starts.

• Mississippi State transfer Dillon Johnson scored in straight games prior to the scare from ASU, and he leads the backfield with 346 rushing yards on 69 touches.

Rome Odunze scored twice in the ranked win over Oregon, and he leads UW in receptions (45) and receiving yards (818).

Ja’Lynn Polk has surpassed the 100-yard mark in four of the last four games, and he’s second on the team with splits of 41/688/5.

• The UW defense is allowing 18.8 points per game.

Stanford Cardinal Preview

Stanford dropped to 2-5 after losing to UCLA in Palo Alto, 42-7. The Cardinal came back to earth after being spanked by the Bruins, and they’ll look to avoid allowing the Huskies to do the same here Saturday. The Stanford offense is scoring 21.3 ppg, while passing for 234.4 ypg, rushing for 127.4 ypg, and converting 44.3% of their third downs.

Stanford Player Notes

Ashton Daniels managed to go 27/45 for the second week in a row in the loss to UCLA, passing for 268 yards with a touchdown and a pick along the way. The sophomore quarterback was thrown into the fire weeks ago, and he’ll face another uphill battle here with a stingy UW defense.

E.J. Smith is set to handle the lead role for the foreseeable future, but he’s only up to 174 yards for the season.

• Sophomore wideout Elic Ayomanor followed up his career game against Colorado with an 8-catch, 90-yard showing versus UCLA, and he leads Stanford in receptions (36) and receiving yards (591).

• The Stanford defense has allowed 36.8 points per game.

Washington vs Stanford Trends

Washington is 3-3-1 against the spread, with a 3-4 O/U record.

Stanford is 3-4 ATS, with a 2-5 over/under record.

Corey’s Free Pick

Well although we were stung the last time we bet against Stanford, I don’t believe we’ll have the same troubles here. The Cardinal were down 29 points in their matchup with Colorado, and after being brought back to reality by Oregon, Washington has a good chance of doing the same. UW has unseen offensive troubles last week at home with ASU, and it’s very unlikely the same struggles occur here between the palm trees. Let’s bet on a big bounce effort from Washington for this Pac-12 battle.
