A pair of division rivals means that this game won’t be lacking in intensity. Washington is trying to climb in the playoff picture while the Rangers are intent on bouncing back from that loss to the Capitals earlier this month on the road. Washington is still struggling to put the puck in the net with any kind of consistency offensively as they are second-worst in the league in goals per game. That could be tough against a Rangers team that has been pretty solid in their own end of the ice and who boasts a pair of goaltenders that are capable of stifling opposing teams from denting the twine. New York is at home here and that helps work in their favor. Panarin, Zibanejad and Kreider lead the way as the Rangers skate away with the victory.

Prediction: New York Rangers -1.5 (+116)

Washington comes in having seen the under post a 21-9-1 mark in their 31 games this season entering Wednesday night’s action. The Capitals have seen an average total of 5.06 goals per game this season though that number climbs to an average of 5.47 goals a game on the road this season. New York has seen the under post a 15-15-2 mark in their 32 games so far this season heading into this game. The average total in their games this season is 6.09 goals per game and that number climbs to an average of 6.53 goals per game on home ice. With a couple of stout defensive teams and a sputtering Capitals’ offense, this game winds up falling short of the total.

Prediction: Under 6.5
