Washington Nationals vs. Colorado Rockies Prediction 7-24-23 MLB Picks

The Colorado Rockies and the Washington Nationals meet in game one of their MLB series from Nationals Park on Monday. Both of these teams have found some surprising success as of late, which one will be able to keep it going to start the new week? Let’s dive in and find out.

Colorado Rockies Team Preview

The Colorado Rockies are a long ways out of the playoff race, but you wouldn’t guess given the recent run they’ve been on, after Colorado took two of three from the Miami Marlins despite a 3-2 loss in Sunday’s series finale. The loss pushed the Rockies to 39-60, 14.5 games back in the NL Wild Card race, but still owning the worst record in the National League. Ryan McMahon leads the Rockies with 89 hits, 15 home runs and 46 RBIs while Elias Diaz has a .266 batting average and Ezequiel Tovar has a team-best 22 doubles so far this season. Jake Bird is expected to get the start for the Rockies here and is 2-1 with a 4.03 ERA and 54 strikeouts this season.

Washington Nationals Team Preview

The Washington Nationals aren’t that much better off than the Rockies in the win-loss department, but they’ve managed some impressive results of their own as of late, sweeping the San Francisco Giants in emphatic fashion with a 6-1 win over the Giants in Sunday’s series finale. The win surged the Nationals to 41-58, 12.5 games back of the final wild card spot in the NL, but still two games clear of the Rockies for the dubious distinction of the worst record in the National League. Lane Thomas leads the Nationals across the board with 116 hits, a .295 batting average, 16 home runs and 54 RBIs. Jeimer Candelario has 15 homers and 47 RBIs while also posting a team-high 27 doubles. Luis Garcia and CJ Abrams each have a team-high 4 triples as well this season. The Nationals did not have a starting pitcher announced at the time that this article was posted.

Chris’ Pick

I’ve looked at this game every way imaginable, but I’m sticking with the Nationals here. The Rockies have had a lot of their success out of the break at home, and now going on the road again it could be tough for the Rockies to keep that momentum rolling. The Nationals haven’t had much of a home field advantage according to their record, but that didn’t stop them from taking it to the Giants over the course of the weekend and I think they do enough to snag another win here.
