Precisely a week before the world’s largest and richest professional cricket league is about to begin, sports technology company Sportradar had made shocking revelations about corruption in the sport. The report, Betting, Corruption and Match-Fixing, mentions that there have been 13 suspicious cricket matches the world over in 2022.

The 28-page document is compiled by the Sportradar Integrity Services. The report carries expert analysis on betting, match-fixing and various other corrupt practices in sports.

Overall, there are a record 1,212 matches under the cloud. The report covers 12 sports disciplines in 92 countries via the Universal Fraud Detection System application, to trace doubtful activities during live sports events.

Football tops the chart of dubious activities with 775 games being suspected of unlawful activities. Cricket features at the sixth position on the dubious table, which also has basketball (second with 220 suspected matches), and lawn tennis in the next position for 75 alleged contentious games.

Report suggests that cricket, handball, and futsal have recorded an upsurge in the number of suspicious matches.

Interestingly, among 12 sports, cricket with 13 doubtful games is sixth in the list. The report claims that the number could still be the highest for the sport in a single year.

Among the countries, Brazil accounted for the most (152) corrupt matches, across disciplines, with Russia being in the second position for 92 games coming under the scanner.
