West Ham shut down David Moyes sack rumours after bookies suspend bets on Rafael Benitez becoming Hammers boss

David Moyes will still be in charge for West Ham’s match against Everton this weekend, talkSPORT understands.

This is despite former Toffees, Liverpool and Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez being linked with the job at the London Stadium.

After two impressive seasons following his return to West Ham, Moyes hasn’t been able to get the same tune out of the Hammers this campaign.

After their 1-0 loss to Wolves, the Irons find themselves in the relegation zone and in serious danger of going down to the Championship for the first time since 2012.

As a result of the Hammers’ struggles, reports emerged of possible replacement for Moyes as they look to save their Premier League status, with Benitez and ex-Wolves and Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo linked.

In fact, bookmakers suspended bets on Benitez to West Ham on Monday night.

But according to talkSPORT’s Jim White, the Hammers haven’t made a decision on Moyes’ future yet, meaning the arrival of Benitez – who has been out of work since his spell at Everton last season – is not imminent.

“West Ham, incidentally, I made a quick call to someone I know at the club – not [David] Sullivan just in case anyone wants to question me on that,” the White and Jordan show co-host said on Tuesday.

“They tell me that no, Moyes will be in charge going into this weekend’s match ironically against Everton.”

Moyes appeared on Dragons’ Den star and businessman Steven Bartlett’s podcast Diary of a CEO just before Christmas and described how he’s hoping to have time to rebuild his side.

However, with the episode of his interview released on Monday at a time when the Hammers have secured just one point in seven league games, a loss at Everton this weekend could see his vision’s of West Ham’s future snatched away.

“We had a really good team for the last two years but we had to change. I had seen signs. I had to break it up,” he admitted on the podcast.

“My experience was telling me if we don’t do it now, we will get caught out. We had some brilliant nights in Europe but we didn’t do well from January.

“The margins were incredibly small. I am not going to get many more goes at this. If I don’t do what I think is right, I will regret it.

“We put our head on the block by bringing new players in. Now I hope to get a little bit of time to settle. We have a better squad. Maybe not a better team. But we have better players and will hopefully show that in the coming months.”
