Pep Guardiola will lead Manchester City out for their second Champions League final in three years as they take on Inter Milan in Istanbul on Saturday evening

Pep Guardiola could win the Champions League with Manchester City

Manchester City can win the Champions League for the first time in their history by beating Inter Milan in the final on Saturday night.

Pep Guardiola's side will be hoping to go one better than in 2021 when they lost against Chelsea in Porto thanks to Kai Havertz's first-half strike. City reached the semi-finals last season but narrowly fell to a 6-5 aggregate defeat against Real Madrid - who went on to win the competition in Paris.

But City are a different beast now. They have already won the Premier League and the FA Cup this term and can complete the famous Treble should they beat Inter in Istanbul. Guardiola's men ran out 2-1 winners over Manchester United at Wembley to win the world's oldest cup competition - two weeks' after lifting the title.

City are also a stronger side in terms of personnel, too. Erling Haaland has been in incredible form since his big-money move from Borussia Dortmund last summer, scoring 52 goals in 52 games in all competitions. He has taken to English football like a duck to water and will be keen to add the Champions League to his collection.

Manuel Akanji, Jack Grealish, Kalvin Phillips and Julian Alvarez were also not at City in May 2021, while several other players, such as John Stones and Kyle Walker have developed into world-class players. Speaking ahead of the game, Guardiola believes City a different proposition this time around.

He said: "I don’t know. I didn't speak to the players about it - some were there, some not. We want to finish differently this time. But we have to know exactly what we have to do to beat this opponent in terms of approach, with and without the ball we have to be focused. We are used to it."

As for Inter, they secured a 3-0 win over arch rivals AC Milan to reach this stage of the competition. Simone Inzaghi's men finished third in Serie A and have already secured their place in the Champions League next season. Nevertheless, they will be eager to win the tournament for the first time since 2010.

Team news

Kyle Walker is City's only possible doubt for the Champions League final with a back injury. Speaking in his press conference, Guardiola said: "He had a disturbance in his back. Yesterday he was not good. Today he was a little bit better. We didn’t want to take a risk and we will see in the next days."

As for Inter, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is facing a late fitness test, while Joaquin Correa could be available.
