White Abarrio Turns Back Strong Challenge For Florida Derby Victory

White Abarrio won the Curlin Florida Derby (G1) at Gulfstream Park. He was the second choice in the race, beating Todd Pletcher-trained Charge It by 1 ¼ lengths. Simplification finished third, a length behind Charge it and 3 ½ lengths ahead of Pappacap. The winner of the Florida derby earns 170 qualifying points for the May 7 Kentucky Derby. There were 14 races on the program with 10 stakes, six graded, worth $2.2 million in purses. White Abrrio was withheld from the March 5 Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth.
