Who Are The Favourites For The Men's Crown At The French Open?

We are just weeks away from the second Grand Slam of the year as tennis stars from all over the world flock to Paris for the French Open, the pinnacle of the clay season. Roland Garros is one of the sport’s grandest stages and the King of Clay, Rafael Nadal, claimed a record-extending 14th title in last year’s tournament.

As we prepare ourselves for another exciting French Open, who do the bookies currently feel are most likely to take the crown?

Carlos Alcaraz - 7-4 (FAV)

The teenage Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz looks to be the heir apparent to Nadal in Spain. The young star has been on a meteoric rise on the ATP tour in recent years and has already a Grand Slam title to his name after he won the US Open last September. 

Novak Djokovic - 7-4 (FAV) 

22-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, along with Nadal and Roger Federer, is one of the greatest tennis players the world has ever seen. The Serbian, however, has only collected two French Open titles in his career, with his most recent triumph coming back in 2021. On his last appearance he was bested by Nadal in the quarter-finals. He heads to Paris having won the Australian Open, like Nadal did a year ago - a good omen perhaps?

Rafael Nadal - 10/3

The King of Clay is rightfully one of the favourites thanks to his dominance at Roland Garros over his illustrious career, not to mention he is the current reigning champion. However, the Spanish superstar has been plagued with injuries throughout his career and he is currently suffering with a hip problem that might rule him out of next month’s tournament.

Stefano Tsitsipas - 11/1

Greece’s Stefano Tsitsipas is a player who has always been tipped for a prominent career on the Grand Slam stage but a maiden title still eludes him. He has reached two majors finals in his career - the 2021 French Open and the 2023 Australian Open. Could both experiences combine to give him his best chance at glory yet?

Holger Rune - 12/1

The world number seven is a rising star on the ATP circuit after turning professional in 2020. Last year brought him his first titles on the tour which included his first victory on clay at the Munich Open.

Jannik Sinner - 14/1

Jannik Sinner is searching for his first Grand Slam title and he has only ever reached the quarter-finals of any of the four majors. The 21-year-old has amassed seven titles on the ATP Tour but only one of them was on clay.

Alexander Zverev - 20/1

Alexander Zverev is one of the more seasoned professionals on the ATP Tour having won 19 titles in his singles career, six of which have come on clay. The German has reached the semi-finals at Roland Garros for the past two years and he will be hoping this is the year that he can surpass that stage of the tournament.

Casper Ruud - 20/1

Norwegian Casper Ruud reached the French Open final last year where he faced his mentor Nadal. He may have been beaten in straight sets to the King of Clay but he will return to Paris with the invaluable experience of having taken part in two Grand Slam finals as he made it to the US Open final in September.

Andrey Rublev - 25/1

World number six Andrey Rublev will be heading to Roland Garro looking to get past his best performance of reaching the quarter-finals in 2020 and 2022. He has collated 13 singles titles in his career and is one of the many players eager to claim their first major championship.
