CLEVELAND, Ohio — After winning their respective conference tournaments, both Case Western and John Carroll have their first-round opponents in the 2024 NCAA Division III men’s basketball tournament.
The Spartans (21-4) will host Mary Baldwin (17-10) from Virginia in the first round on Friday at 7:15 p.m. Eastern. Mary Baldwin has never made an NCAA tournament in any sport in school history.
Case Western also hosts a quadrant of tournament, which means it will also host Hope College (Mich.) (22-6) and Anderson (Ind.) (23-4) on Friday. The two winners will meet in Saturday’s second round.

The other first-round matchup in this quadrant is Calvin (Mich.) (22-4) vs. Elmhurst (Ill.) (22-5), and the winners will face off on Saturday.
Both Case Western and John Carroll earned automatic bids into the tournament by winning their respective conferences. Case Western won a share of the University Athletics Association title and the conference’s automatic bid when it beat Carnegie Mellon, 76-75, on Saturday. The conference does not have a tournament.
JCU knocked off rival Mount Union, last year’s national runner up in D3, in the championship game for the Ohio Athletic Conference on Saturday, 88-86.
The Final Four will be held in Fort Wayne, Ind., with the semifinals taking place on March 14 and the championship game happening at 4 p.m. on March 16.
