Why is Oklahoma State Ranked Eighth in 2024 Big 12 Title Odds?

With temperatures continuing to climb and the sunshine beginning to come out for longer periods of time, spring football is officially in the air.

While spring football should answer many questions about which teams deserve to be considered for the title of the Big 12’s top team, one team is being left behind, and we can’t quite figure out why.

On Monday, FanDuel Sportsbook listed each Big 12 team’s shot of winning the title in 2024 and placed the Oklahoma State Cowboys in eighth place with (+1600) odds.

The full odds from FanDuel are listed below.

  • Utah (+340)
  • Kansas State (+360)
  • Kansas (+650)
  • Arizona (+750)
  • Texas Tech (+850)
  • UCF (+1100)
  • Iowa State (+1200)
  • Oklahoma State (+1600)
  • TCU (+1600)
  • West Virginia (+1900)
  • Colorado (+4000)
  • Baylor (+5500)
  • Cincinnati (+6500)
  • Arizona State (+10000)
  • BYU (+13000)
  • Houston (+13000)

While fans of college football and sports betting are always looking for value plays to make money, Oklahoma State’s odds are criminally low. For a team that is one year removed from an appearance in the Big 12 Championship game and is also returning a Doak Walker Award winner, a 1000-yard receiver, and a starting quarterback in 2024, eighth place is outrageous.

While I understand arguments for Utah, Kansas State, Kansas, and Arizona, if the ball were in my court, OSU would be listed fifth, just behind Arizona but ahead of Texas Tech. The team finished second in the Big 12 Conference after losing to the Texas Longhorns X-X in the Big 12 title game. The 10-4 season was the Cowboys’ second 10-win season in the past three years, and with players like Ollie Gordon, Brennan Presley, Alan Bowman, and Nickolas Martin returning to OSU in the fall, there’s a lot to like right now in Stillwater.

Will the Cowboys be able to make another impressive run in 2024? Only time will tell. Oklahoma State kicks off its season on Saturday, August 31st, against the South Dakota State Jack Rabbits.
