Will Frankie Dettori break Royal protocol again? Jockey backed to deliver heartbreak to Charles & Camilla in St Leger

FRANKIE DETTORI is probably the only bloke in the world who could get away with breaking Royal protocol.

The world's most famous jockey and renowned cheeky chappy landed a kiss on Queen Camilla's cheek after winning the Ascot Gold Cup on Courage Mon Ami.

But now it looks like he could do so all over again thanks to the superstar horse he's set to ride in Saturday's St Leger.

Dettori is booked to ride Queen's Vase winner Gregory for big-spending owners Wathnan Racing at Doncaster.

While Charles and Camilla - who are set to make an historic first visit to the racecourse - will be represented by fellow Royal Ascot and subsequent Goodwood champ Desert Hero.

Their three-year-old colt was an amazing 18-1 winner of the King George V Stakes then backed it up in the Group 3 John Pearce Racing Gordon Stakes during the Glorious meeting.

But it's Gregory who the bookies think holds the upper hand for the final Classic of the season.

Victory in the 1m6f contest is worth a little over £420,000 and a massive payday for even the richest owners.

Desert Hero's trainer William Haggas will almost certainly use Tom Marquand.

The top jockey, husband of fellow rider Hollie Doyle, recently celebrated his 1,000th winner - only to make history when getting overturned on a 1-25 shot.

The duo will bid to make more racing history on Saturday and give the Royals a second win in the famous race after the late Queen landed it in 1977 with Dunfermline.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: "All focus this week will be on the last Classic of the season and with the race really cutting up, the remaining nine have all shortened.

"The vibes are still positive around Gregory despite his defeat at York and he remains the one to beat."
