Wimbledon 2022 order of play today: Saturday schedule, who's playing on each court and what time matches start

WIMBLEDON – Katie Boulter was the hero of the hour on Thursday after the unseeded Briton stunned last year’s finalist Karolina Pliskova, but that has not earned her a place back on Centre Court on Saturday.

Instead, home fans who are hoping to cheer on the 25-year-old will have to be up bright and early as she plays the first match of the day at 11am on No 2 Court.

A week ago, few would have had a problem with Boulter’s match against Harmony Tan – two players ranked 118 and 115 respectively – being shunted out of the spotlight, but that was before their spectacular efforts against Pliskova and Serena Williams.

Indeed Tan has emerged as one of the unlikely stars of the first two rounds, warring with doubles partner Tamara Korpatsch after pulling out of their match together and beating Williams in a thriller that will go down as one of the great upsets in SW19.

Nick Kyrgios’ week has been even more dramatic, rowing with a line judge and spitting in the direction of a supporter he claimed had “disrespected” him during his first-round match against Paul Jubb. His follow-up against Filip Krajinovic passed without incident – though the day still ended with a tirade against the media.

Kyrgios will be under pressure to back that up – his best at Wimbledon was a quarter-final, and that was eight years ago – but his odds are slim against world No 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas.

That will be a huge fourth-round clash but once again, it has not made Centre Court and will be the last match on No 1 Court. It will follow ladies’ world No 1 Iga Swiatek, who was denied a place on Centre Court for the second round too. She plays Alize Cornet.

Rafael Nadal rounds off the day on Centre Court against No 27 seed Lorenzo Sonego.

Upset watch

Alex de Minaur lost his first set to Jack Draper and now faces his compatriot Liam Broady, fresh from Broady’s own shock win over Diego Schwartzman. The Briton is 105 places below him in the world rankings, so it would be a spectacular effort if he could go a step further.

Elena Rybakina needed a tie-break against both CoCo Vandeweghe and Bianca Andreescu and she has a tough test in Qinwen Zheng on Court 18 if she is to equal her career best at Wimbledon in reaching the last-16.
