Wimbledon Day 6 Men's Predictions Including Alcaraz vs Jarry

Well, we’re finally back on schedule at Day 6 of this year’s Wimbledon Championships, with only eight men’s matches on Saturday’s schedule. As always, we here at LWOT will share our thoughts on all of the matches with you. We split the eight matches between this and a second article. Predicting these matches are Shane Black, Jordan Reynolds, and Andreas Pelekis. Who do you think will advance?

Wimbledon Day 6 Men’s Predictions

Holger Rune vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina

Shane:
No. 6 seed Holger Rune has quietly moved into Round 3 without dropping a set. This is just his fifth career grass-court event, but he has been adapting quickly. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina does not have much experience on the surface, but he has looked solid in two wins this week. Rune should be able to play enough first-strike tennis to find the finish line.
Prediction: Rune in 4

Jordan:
Rune has been solid if unspectacular in his first two matches, and is slipping somewhat under Alcaraz’s radar, which may suit him. Davidovich Fokina was very good as he dispatched van de Zandschulp in the second round. It will be a competitive match that rune will win.
Prediction: Rune in 4

Andreas:
A popcorn filled rematch is on the cards, as both players battled late into the night earlier this season in Madrid. That match was gladiator-esque, with multiple bouts of cramping, bad line calls, and countless boos at the controversial Dane. Rune seemed tired in that match, coming off a title in Munich and playing multiple three sets in the two weeks before. Rune seems more refreshed now, allowing him to execute his confident gamestyle. Davidovich Fokina looked solid in his round two win, but nothing too eye-opening has come out of the Spaniard this week.
Prediction: Rune in 4

Tommy Paul vs Jiri Lehecka

Shane:
21-year-old Jiri Lehecka won his first career grass-court match this season and has not looked back. He has yet to drop a set at Wimbledon and has shown he plays well in big moments. Tommy Paul has the defensive game to force Lehecka into longer rallies. While Lehecka will hold up early, I think the American eventually wears him down.
Prediction: Paul in 5

Jordan:
Both guys were impressive in the last round. Paul held his nerve against 2016 runner-up Milos Raonic, while Lehecka demolished Eastbourne champion Cerundolo. Both players have suitable games for grass. Lehecka in a close one.
Prediction: Lehecka in 5

Andreas:
In a tournament where Djokovic takes the reins as the most comfortable on grass, Tommy Paul might be in the top five as far as grass-court specialists. His serve works well on the fast courts, and he uses the net to his advantage. However, Lecheka is a tricky opponent, and he decimated Cerundolo with the loss of only six games. This definitely should be a close one, but Paul’s serve might just give him the advantage.
Prediction: Paul in 5

Christopher Eubanks vs Christopher O’Connell

Shane:
World No. 73 Christopher O’Connell takes on world No. 43 Christopher Eubanks with an incredible opportunity for the winner to reach the second week at Wimbledon. Eubanks is 12-3 on the grass this season and has a great serve that pierces even the best returners. I see that serve carrying him past O’Connell in this match.
Prediction: Eubanks in 4

Jordan:
Mallorca champion Eubanks had a brilliant victory over 12th seed Cameron Norrie, while O’Connell had his own impressive win against the conqueror of Sebastian Korda Jiri Vesely. Eubanks is playing the tennis of his life, and I think his dream run will extend by another match.
Prediction: Eubanks in 4

Andreas:
A massive opportunity for both players, with a chance at a first Grand Slam round-of-16 appearance. Eubanks is riding a thrilling win streak, dating back to his first ATP title in Mallorca, as he just recently took out the top ranked British player. Sealing what was a nightmare Wimbledon for Brits with Norrie’s defeat, Eubanks may be a nice crowd favorite in this one. O’Connell’s variety may suit him well on grass, but the American should have too much confidence.
Prediction: Eubanks in 4

Carlos Alcaraz vs Nicolas Jarry

Shane:
No. 1 seed Carlos Alcaraz has adapted quickly to the grass and has won his last 16 sets on the surface. Nicolas Jarry has looked solid through two matches at Wimbledon but is much more comfortable on slower surfaces. Outside of an unreal serving day, I do not see how the Chilean can puncture the young Spaniard.
Prediction: Alcaraz in 3

Jordan:
Jarry is usually a clay courter but got a superb win over Jason Kubler and should be proud reaching the third round. I don’t foresee the #1 seed Alcaraz having any problems though. He hasn’t dropped a set yet and I think that will continue.
Prediction: Alcaraz in 3

Andreas:
Although Alcaraz didn’t look great in his two-hour 30-minute win over Muller, he was still able to avoid dropping a set. He’ll have to cut down unforced errors against Jarry, arguably a more consistent player. Winning when not at his best should give Alcaraz a bit of confidence, and achieving his first Centre Court victory is also a bonus. Ultimately, the Spaniard should win this easily.
Prediction: Alcaraz in 3
