Winnipeg Jets vs. San Jose Sharks Prediction, Preview, and Odds

The Winnipeg Jets continue their four-game road trip. Over their last two outings, the Jets have defeated the Colorado Avalanche 4-2 and the Anaheim Ducks 4-2, and Winnipeg is now riding a four-game winning streak. 

Last Sunday, the Jets erased a two-goal deficit at Honda Center in Anaheim, tallying four unanswered goals in the third period. Winnipeg outshot Anaheim 31-27, and the Jets found a way to come out on top despite going 0-for-5 with the man advantage. 

The Jets score 3.27 goals per game (tied-13th in the NHL) while surrendering 2.65 goals in return (7th). Connor Hellebuyck is expected to guard the cage Tuesday in San Jose, and the 30-year-old netminder carries a 13-6-1 record with a strong 2.45 GAA and a .915 save percentage. Hellebuyck has emerged victorious in seven of his previous nine starts and will aim for his fourth straight win on Tuesday night. 

The San Jose Sharks missed on an opportunity to beat the reigning Stanley Cup champions. They suffered a 5-4 shootout defeat at the Vegas Golden Knights this past Sunday. After a couple of overtime wins against the New York Islanders 5-4 and the Detroit Red Wings 6-5, the Sharks recorded the third loss in their last eight outings at any location. 

San Jose outshot Vegas 38-27, erasing a two-goal deficit in the final four minutes of the third period. Mike Hoffman finished the game with two goals, while Mikael Granlund made a couple of dishes. The Sharks went 1-for-3 with the man advantage and committed just one giveaway on the night. 

The Sharks are 32nd in the league in both goals for (2.21 per game) and goals against (4.04). Kaapo Kahkonen has guarded the cage in three straight contests, and the 27-year-old goalie is now 5-6-1 with a 3.88 GAA and a .894 save percentage in 2023-24. Mackenzie Blackwood has gone 3-11-2 with a 3.83 GAA and a .895 save percentage so far this term.

The Sharks will be fired up to extend their excellent run of form attacking-wise, but they’ll face off against one of the best netminders in the league on Tuesday night. Winnipeg is fifth in the league in expected goals against, so I’ll take the under. 

Each of San Jose’s last five contests has gone over the total, whereas seven of Winnipeg’s previous nine have gone under. The under is 4-1 in the last five encounters between the Jets and Sharks.
