Women’s World Cup group odds: Nigeria favoured to win Group B after win over Australia

The Women’s World Cup is well underway and 16 teams will advance to the knockout round after two weeks of group stage play.

The latest: Canada’s odds to win Group B are shortening after the country’s win over Ireland and Australia’s loss to Nigeria. The latter is now the favourite to take the group, which is one of the more intriguing storylines from the tournament.

Canada's odds: Group B

Soccer Oddsas of 1:53 p.m. on 07/27/2023.

Nigeria is the sudden favourite to win Group B.

In our last update, the Super Falcons held +4,000 odds to win Group B. A shocking 3-2 win over Australia has significantly shortened their odds, though, and a win over Ireland in their final group stage match will secure first place.

The Aussies, meanwhile, have fallen hard. They are no longer a lock to advance from their group, let alone win it. The Matildas will need a victory over Canada to have any shot at winning the group.

Canada, meanwhile, can win the group with a draw or victory over Australia depending on how Nigeria performs.

Group A

Soccer Oddsas of 1:53 p.m. on 07/27/2023.

Seeing Norway at the bottom of Group A is very surprising.

A loss to New Zealand and a draw versus Switzerland means the best the Norwegians can do is finish second. Their chances of doing so (-400) are pretty high considering the Philippines are on deck.

But as New Zealand found out the hard way, you can’t underestimate any team at this tournament. The host nation lost 1-0 to the Malditas and now needs a win over Switzerland to secure itself a spot.

A loss or a draw opens the potential to be ousted depending on the result of the game between the Philippines and Norway.

Women's World Cup odds: Group C

Soccer Oddsas of 1:53 p.m. on 07/27/2023.

Spain has been a massive favourite to win Group C all along and the nation’s play during the tournament shows why.

La Roja have outscored the opposition 8-0 through its first two games at the Women’s World Cup. The Spaniards have already punched their ticket to the knockout stage, but first in the group remains open.

Japan has been equally as impressive, outscoring the opposition 7-0 en route to a pair of victories. The upcoming meeting between these powerhouses will determine seeding for the knockout stage.

Group D

Soccer Oddsas of 1:53 p.m. on 07/27/2023.

England is the favourite to win Group D and handled its business against Haiti, scoring a 1-0 victory.

The Lionesses’ are among the favourites to take it all after winning the 2022 European Championship and have seven different players with 50-plus international caps on the roster.

This is a veteran team looking to avenge its semifinal loss to the USA in the 2019 WWC.

Denmark and China — ranked 13th and 14th, respectively — opened the tournament and it was the Danish winning the pivotal contest, 1-0.

Group E

Soccer Oddsas of 1:53 p.m. on 07/27/2023.

The USWNT isn’t as big of a lock as it was before to win Group E.

A win over Vietnam and a draw against the Netherlands means the USA needs a victory over Portugal to secure the top spot. The Portuguese have been a competitive side in this tournament, pairing a 1-0 loss to the Netherlands with a 2-0 win over Vietnam.

The Vietnamese haven’t scored a goal at the Women’s World Cup and have no chance of advancing. Its next match is against the Netherlands and a Dutch win could potentially nab it first in Group E.

Group F

Soccer Oddsas of 1:53 p.m. on 07/27/2023.

France and Brazil both hold odds of -2,000 or shorter to advance out of the group stage, leaving little room for Jamaica or Panama to pull off a miracle.

The matchup between Les Bleues and As Canarinhas should be a great one.

They’ll face off on July 29 in Matchday 2 and if one squad can come out victorious it’ll most likely top Group F.

Group G

Soccer Oddsas of 1:53 p.m. on 07/27/2023.

The Swedes have two bronze medals in the last three World Cups and were most recently defeated by the Netherlands in extra time at the 2019 semis.

This team is talented and beat South Africa 2-1 in its opener.

Italy edged out Argentina 2-1 on Matchday 1. Le Azzure could give Sweden a run for its money in Group G.

Women's World Cup odds: Group H

Soccer Oddsas of 1:53 p.m. on 07/27/2023.

Before the United States’ current dynasty took over, Germany was the team to beat.

The Germans won the 2003 and 2007 World Cups and have advanced out of the group stage in every edition of this tournament. They also won six consecutive Women’s European Cups from 1995 to 2013.

Their current squad hasn’t tasted any of that success but remains a formidable opponent, having beaten the United States, France (twice) and the Netherlands in the last calendar year. It beat Morocco 6-0 in its opening match.

Colombia’s 2-0 win over South Korea drastically improved its odds to finish top 2 as well as win the group. Las Chicas Superpoderosas get a chance to prove they’re among the top contenders in their match against Germany during Matchday 2.
