WTA: Dubai Duty Free Championships Odds & Betting Preview

Some of the world’s best female players will be on display in the United Arab Emirates from Sunday, February 19, 2023, as the WTA Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships get underway. The tournament will run over a six-dayperiod, with the final set to take place on Saturday, February 25, 2023.

It will be a lucrative warm-up tournament for the French Open, with prize money of just under $2.8 million available to the WTA players involved. However, you can learn more about the Dubai Duty Free players, and our tennis predictions for the event here.

The fact that this is a WTA 1000 event on this year’s tennis schedule means that some of the world’s best players will be involved. Historically, the Dubai Tennis Championships have altered between a WTA 1000 and WTA 500 level tournament throughout its history.

Justine Henin is the most successful player in the history of the event, as she landed four titles between 2003 and 2007. Only Three other stars have won multiple titles, including Venus Williams, who won her third and final title in 2014. The reigning champion is Jelena Ostapenko, who claimed a dominant straight-sets victory over Veronika Kudermetova last year when the event was run as a WTA 500 tournament.

Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2023 Contenders

Iga Swiatek

The top-ranked player on the WTA Tour returns to action in the Dubai Duty Free Championships. The 21-year-old Pole has been seen sparingly on the court since her fourth-round exit at the Australian Open. However, we are likely to learn more about her fitness levels at the Qatar Open, which is still ongoing.

Swiatek was in action at the event last year, but she was eliminated in the second round by Jill Teichmann in straight sets. But, if she is returning to the court at the top of her game, then there’s little doubt that the three-time Grand Slam winner remains among the most likely Dubai Duty Free tennis predictions this year.

Aryna Sabalenka

It could be very hard to ignore Aryna Sabalenka should she compete at the Duty Free Tennis Championships this year. The Belarusian star has been in dominant form on the court throughout this calendar year, highlighted by her maiden Grand Slam success at the Australian Open just over a month ago.

That success saw her move up to second in the world rankings, and such was her dominance throughout that event, she would be hard to rule out in Dubai. Sabalenka dropped just one set in seven matches, which was also the only set that she has failed to win in eleven matches since returning to action in 2023.

Jelena Ostapenko

Jelena Ostapenko always attracts big crowds when she is in action at the Dubai Tennis Championships, and that will be no different this year. The reigning champion was taken to deciding sets from the second round onwards when winning the tournament last year, but her stamina on the Dubai surface was always a key component in her arsenal.

However, the 25-year-old will need to rediscover the magic that got her to a first title at the event last year, as her recent form hasn’t been strong. She was eliminated in the round of 16 at the recent Abu Dhabi Open, while she was comprehensively beaten at the quarterfinal stage at the Australian Open in late January.

Elena Rybakina

It seems odd that Elena Rybakina continues to go under the radar in the betting for the big events, as the Kazakhstani player is already a Grand Slam winner. She was in excellent form at the Australian Open, and if she had come up against any other player than an in-form Sabalenka, then she likely would already be a two-time Grand Slam champion.

The 23-year-old is still improving on the court, but she returned following the Australian Open with a decent run to the quarterfinals at the Abu Dhabi Open. She also has previous experience at the Dubai Tennis Championship, as she was a beaten finalist against Simona Halep in 2020. Once again, Rybakina could be the value play.

Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship Prediction

Sticking with the opinion of Rybakina being good value in the betting, that leads me onto the main play for the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship. Beatriz Haddad Maia is one of the most criminally underrated players on the tour, and she has frequently shown that she has what it takes to go far in ATP 500 and ATP 1000 events.

The Brazilian was narrowly denied a spot in the final at the Abu Dhabi Open earlier this month, but her display against Belinda Bencic highlights that a renewed challenge is likely in Dubai.
