York races results recap: Mishriff an impressive winner of Juddmonte International

Mishriff heads the betting for the Juddmonte International. Others with leading claims on day one of the Ebor Festival include Dubawi Legend and High Definition

Mishriff continued the fairytale for jockey David Egan with an easy success in the £1 million Juddmonte International.

The colt, victorious in the world's richest race earlier this year, the £14 million Saudi Cup, blew away the field on the Knavesmire.

Mishriff travelled easily for Egan, also on board for his Dubai Sheema Classic triumph and he appeared to have all rivals covered.

Once asked, he stretched six lengths clear of Alenquer, with the rest of the runners finishing in close proximity to one another.

Egan said: “I’m just so privileged to be put in the position to ride for (owner) Prince Faisal and ride a horse like Mishriff for Mr Gosden. Winning the Juddmonte International, it’s stuff I’ve dreamt of my whole life.

“The Saudi Cup and the Sheema Classic were fantastic – and to win a Group One in the UK, especially the Juddmonte International with the Saudi Arabian connection for Prince Faisal, it’s very, very special. This just proves he can do it overseas – and he can do it at home.”

Have a good evening.

Lucky jockey hopes to bag huge Liverpool double

Pierre-Louis Jamin, who won on Michael Owen's runner Flaming Rib, rides Mr McCann tomorrow.

The horse is owned by Anfield stars Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

He competes in Thursday's OR8Wellness EBF Stallions Nursery Handicap (4.10).

Race 7 result

Ex-footballer Michael Owen is a co-owner of final race winner Flaming Rib.

1. Flaming Rib 16-1

2. Pockett Rockett 33-1

3. Hellomydarlin 20-1

4. Instinctive Move 14-1

Race 7 preview

1 BOSH

2 JADHLAAN

3 LADY LADE

BOSH keeps coming up with personal bests and is hard to get away from.

After a promising debut second at Salisbury in May, the Richard Hannon-trained youngster went one better by a nose in a course-and-distance maiden the following month.

A 6lb penalty wasn’t enough to prevent the follow-up at Newbury at the start of July, and Bosh came within half a length of landing a monster pot at Naas last time out.

Sent off at 4-1 in a field of 22, Pat Dobbs’ partner travelled strongly before finding Ger Lyons’ unbeaten Sacred Bridge too strong during the closing stages.

More is probably required to defy a British Horseracing Authority rating of 95 on his handicap debut, but Bosh looks the type with more to give.

Jadhlaan, who ran well when second at Goodwood, Nottingham scorer Aristobulus and the hat-trick-seeking Lady Lade are all capable of having a say in proceedings.

Race 6 result

1. Tweet Tweet 7-1

2. Mid Winster 11-1

3. Noorban 8-1

4. Tenaya Canyon 5-1

Race 6 (4.45) preview

1 TENAYA CANYON

2 PRINCESS POWER

3 ATIYAH

TENAYA CANYON has gone from strength to strength since being stepped back to five furlongs and should again go well.

Her first three starts of the year, all over six furlongs, yielded defeats at Lingfield Park (twice) and Yarmouth, but Ed Walker’s Due Diligence filly has thrived for being campaigned a the minimum trip since.

Having accounted for Ventura Express by a length at Haydock Park in June, my selection went under to Mid Winster by the same margin at Doncaster the following month.

But Tenaya Canyon was back to winning form at Town Moor 13 days ago, coming home strongly under Saffie Osborne to beat Copper Knight by three parts of a length.

There’s a 5lb rise in the weights to deal with, but Tenaya Canyon doesn’t look like a horse whose form is about to plateau and, with Osborne - excellent value for her 5lb allowance - again on board, a third success from her last four attempts wouldn’t rank as a surprise.

In an open fillies’ handicap, Princess Power is falling down the handicap and enters calculations, as do Wolverhampton scorer Atiyah and the consistent Ey Up It’s Maggie.

Gamble landed

A winner for popular pick Arcadian Sunrise, trained in Ireland by John Queally.

1. Arcadian Sunrise 11-4f

2. Rajinsky 7-1

3. Platform Nineteen 6-1

4. Hochfeld 40-1

Off they go

Jamie Spencer is going to ride a patient race on the favourite Arcardian Sunrise, as longshot Torcello sets the pace.

Newsboy's prediction for the 4.10

Our tipster believes the favourite may find one rival too good.

1 SCARAMANGA

2 ARCADIAN SUNRISE

3 HOCHFELD

SCARAMANGA has shown himself an improved performer under both codes in 2021 - and has not yet reached the bottom of the barrel.

Paul Nicholls saddled the gelded son of Mastercraftsman to successes over hurdles at Newbury and Sandown Park in the final weeks of the latest National Hunt campaign.

And Scaramanga took another step forward when having his first outing on the Flat for nine months in a two-mile handicap at the former course last month.

Locking horns with 11 opponents, the Ditcheat six-year-old, whose rider Silvestre De Sousa keeps the partnership intact, won again with a half-length verdict over Rodrigo Diaz, the pair crossing the line four and a quarter lengths to the good of Withhold.

Given the distance back to the third horse, a 7lb rise in the handicap was to be expected, but Scaramanga is thriving and should show to the fore once again.

It is little surprise that the market has latched on to Irish raider Arcadian Sunrise, and John Queally’s hurdles winner from the Galway Festival rates a danger to all, while Elysian Flame, Hochfeld and Nicholas T are candidates for the minor medals.

Big gamble coming up

Arcadian Sunrise is a major market mover ahead of our next contest, the Sky Bet Handicap (4.10).

Amazing scenes

Mishriff has been a horse of a lifetime for young rider David Egan.

Here's what he said after the race.

6-1 Mohaafeth

17-2 Alenquer

16-1 Mac Swiney

50-1 Juan Elcano

Juddmonte International (3.35) preview

Newsboy has gone Alcohol Free.

1 ALCOHOL FREE

2 MISHRIFF

3 MAC SWINEY

ALCOHOL FREE is well up to capturing the fourth Group 1 prize of her career as she tackles a mile and a quarter for the first time.

The winner of Newmarket’s top-level Cheveley Park Stakes at two, Andrew Balding’s daughter of No Nay Never has put two more Group 1 victories on her CV this year.

Bouncing back from a below-expectations fifth in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket, Oisín Murphy’s mount beat Snow Lantern by a length and a half in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.

And, following a close third to that rival in the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket’s July Festival, Alcohol Free claimed the prize scalp of Poetic Flare in the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last time out.

Her run style - more than her pedigree - suggests the foray beyond a mile should hold no fears, and another good account is on the cards from this most likeable filly.

Podium finishes when third in the Coral-Eclipse Stakes and second in Ascot’s King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes make Mishriff, who finished ahead of Love on the latter occasion, a solid favourite.

The William Haggas pair Mohaafeth and Alenquer warrant respect, but the best option at bigger odds is Mac Swiney, who has a role to play if able to repeat the form of his Irish 2,000 Guineas success.

Big race coming up

Our next is the feature Juddmonte International, scheduled for 3.35.

Latest odds on race 3

13-2 Yibir

8-1 Youth Spirit

16-1 The Mediterranean

20-1 Scope

Other betting news

Declarations are in for Friday's Nunthorpe Stakes and Suesa is the 9-4 favourite with Ladbrokes.

American raider Golden Pal is second in the betting, priced at 5-2 .

In the Weatherbys Hamilton Lonsdale Cup, Stradivarius is just favourite at 6-5, with Trueshan at 9-4.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “Wesley Ward has said Golden Pal is the fastest horse he has ever trained so unsurprisingly punters are already starting to show support and we imagine he could be one of the worst results of the week.”

Classic quotes for the winner

Royal Patronage is 25-1 with Coral for next year's Qipco 2,000 Guineas.

"Although Royal Patronage was a big priced winner of the Acomb Stakes, there appeared to be no fluke about his victory and in denting some big reputations, he's very much entered the picture for next year's Guineas," said the firm's David Stevens.

Reaction from winning trainer Mark Johnston

Newsboy's race 3 (3.00) preview

1 HIGH DEFINITION

2 KEMARI

3 THIRD REALM

HIGH DEFINITION had excuses when beating just one horse home in the Irish Derby, and shouldn’t be written off.

Winter favourite for the Cazoo Derby on the back of two-year-old wins in a maiden and the Group 2 Beresford Stakes at the Curragh, the Aidan O’Brien-saddled son of Galileo made his comeback in York’s Group 2 Dante Stakes in May.

Although Ryan Moore’s mount couldn’t justify 13-8 favouritism - he stayed on to finish a two-length third to Hurricane Lane - the subsequent exploits of both the winner and runner-up Megallan have shown the form in a very positive light.

Re-routed from Epsom to the Curragh, where he led the market at 9-4, High Definition began to labour after clipping heels of a rival after two furlongs, eventually returning 10th of 11 behind Charlie Appleby’s Dante victor.

High Definition is better than that, and can prove the point with a first success of his Classic season.

Hurricane Lane’s stablemate Kemari won Royal Ascot’s Group 2 Queen’s Vase with authority and is feared, with Goodwood rivals Sir Lucan and Third Realm high on the list.

Easy win for the outsider

Big reputations went on the line for race 2 and bubbles were well and truly burst.

Royal Patronage made the running and stayed on well to score by two-and-a-quarter lengths.

Favourite Dubawi Legend was in the perfect position to pick up the leader, but he didn't have the change of gear required.

On the front end appears the place to be this afternoon.

Race 2 result: Group 3 Tattersalls Acomb Stakes

1. Royal Patronage 25-1

2. Imperial Fighter 11-2

Newsboy's preview for the 2.25

His Nap of the day is the Hugo Palmer-trained Dubawi Legend.

1 DUBAWI LEGEND

2 NOBLE TRUTH

3 IMPERIAL FUTURE

DUBAWI LEGEND could scarcely have created a more stirring impression on his debut and is ripe for the step up to Group 3 level.

Hugo Palmer’s son of Dubawi must have been showing up well on the Newmarket gallops prior to lining up against 11 rivals for a seven-furlong novice stakes at Doncaster 27 days ago - he was sent off the 11-8 market leader.

The gamble never looked in danger of going astray as James Doyle’s partner moved with menace behind the lead before easing to the front inside the final two furlongs.

At that point, the race was as good as over - once given the office, my selection burst five lengths clear of Brasil Power.

The evidence of that performance is that Dubawi Legend is a useful juvenile in the making, and he is expected to remain unbeaten.

Noble Truth had evidently learned from his Newmarket bow in June - he scored by a couple of lengths at the same track the following month - and looks set to make the shake-up, while Ehraz and Imperial Future are two-year-olds with bright futures.

Latest odds for race 2

Grovesnor Sport's market for the 2.25, the Group 3 Tattersalls Acomb Stakes.
