2022 MLB Playoff Bracket: Teams, Seeds & Schedule
The playoff field is set. The #1 seed is the Astros, the #2 seed the Yankees. In the NL, Dodgers and Braves receive byes. Cardinals host the Phillies and the Mets host #5 Padres. Seattle holds a four-game lead on Baltimore in the AL. Cleveland is 3.5 games up on the White Sox in AL Central. Phillies are 2 games behind Milwaukee for the final Wild Card spot. St. Louis is #3 in NL. The Twins are in # 3 spot in their division. They are no longer favored in MLB division odds. Dodgers are tied with the New York Yankees for best World Series odds, as well as the best divisional odds in both leagues.

In the NL, the number 1 seed receives byes, and the second seed gets bye. The third seed hosts the Cardinals, fourth seed the Phillies, fifth seed the Padres. There was some seeding movement in the AL and NL. It's the case in both leagues that the teams with the best divisional records are seeded higher. If the playoffs started today, Dodgers and Mets would receive byles to the Division Series in NL if the postseason started.
The 2022 MLB playoff bracket is different than previous seasons. This is the first year of a revised 12-team format. Six teams from each league make the playoffs: the three division-winners (seeded #1 through #3), plus three Wild Card teams (seeded #4 through#6).
The division-winner with the best record receives the #1 seed and a bye to the Division Series. The division winner with third-best record gets the third seed, the division with fourth-to-fifth-place receives sixth seed. Wild-Card teams play each other in a best-of-three series hosted by the first- and second-placed Wild Cards.
The Wild Card round consists of two best-of-three series in each league. The division-winners with the best records in the division receive a bye to the Division Series. Division-winner with third-best record in a league must play the final Wild card team in best of three series hosted by the winner.
The new MLB playoffs are a 12-team format. The top-two seeds in the AL and NL advance straight to the Division Series. Bottom four teams play a Wild Card series to determine the final two teams in Division series. They play for a berth in World Series, which is a best-of-seven series for the winner.
The three division-winners from each league get the top-three seeds. The three-best non-division-winning teams get three Wild Card berths.
Starting in 2022, three Wild Card teams from each league qualify for the MLB playoffs.
