The 2024 Players Championship odds have been released, and it’s time to make some picks for a tournament that many consider to be golf’s fifth major.

While the field will be stacked with top-end talent, we’re focusing on some of the more unheralded competitors.

Here are our 2024 Players Championship long shots and sleeper picks:

2024 Players Championship long shot picks: Best Players Championship dark horse odds to consider

Scottie Scheffler +750 and Rory McIlroy +1000 will once again headline a field of 144 golf greats at TPC Sawgrass. Rounding out the 2024 Players Championship odds board’s top five is Xander Schauffele +1400, Viktor Hovland +1800 and Patrick Cantlay +2000.

But there’s a goldmine of value to be found down the list on players that have consistently played this pressure-cooker course well. Read below for our favorite 2024 Players Championship long shots and dark horse picks:

2024 Players Championship long shot pick: Shane Lowry (+6000 or better)

Shane Lowry is in top form right now on the heels of a third-place finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and a T4 at the Cognizant Classic. His Strokes Gained: Approach to Green ranks 10th on Tour and bodes well for a tricky course that favors approach and short game over towering tee shots. Although, his distance will come in handy on the par 5s.

After a rough start at this course earlier in his career, the Irishman has figured something out here. He has an average finishing position of just over 15 in the last three seasons, including an 8 in 2021. We’ll take the value on one of the world’s hottest golfers at the moment.

2024 Players Championship long shot picks: Russell Henley (+7500 or better)

Russell Henley is fresh off a fantastic T4 finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The 34-year-old now has two top-10 finishes in six events this year and will look to continue his impressive play at the Players.

Henley has consecutive top-20 finishes at TPC Sawgrass, a course where his driving accuracy and putting (both better than field average) play well. Henley's best finish here was T13 in 2022, but it's his current form that has us backing him here. We think the former Georgia Bulldog stays hot and is in contention once again this week.

Players Championship sleeper picks: Jake Knapp (+12000 or better)

Jake Knapp is coming off a forgettable performance at a tough Bay Hill course, but prior to that, the 29-year-old had been one this year’s best players onTour. He already has three top-five finishes, including his first PGA victory at the Mexico Open. The UCLA product is fourth in SG: Total and 9th in SG: APP.

With treacherous green side bunkers and water hazards on almost every hole, those with a deft approach game will be rewarded here as usual. If an outright win is too much to stomach for you, a Jake Knapp top-10 finish still fetches +900 odds.
